Who the Hell is Daryl?
Summary: Bucky is in love with you, and finally finds the courage to tell you. But what happens when it sounds like someone else is already in the picture? (Miscommunication!)
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x f!Avenger!Reader
Words: 2k
Warnings: Miscommunication trope! Only one small mention of âY/Nâ, teensy bit of yelling, let me know if I missed anything.
A/N: Wrote this a couple days ago and put it in drafts, spontaneously posted bc I'm procrastinating on an essay. Okay I'll get back to hw now :(
Dividers: @firefly-graphics
He was going to do it. He was really going to do it.Â
He was finally going to ask you out.
-----
To the surprise of everyone on the team, you and Bucky had become fast pals after you joined six months ago. Something about the two of you clicked. âOpposites attractâ and all that, but Bucky always felt it went deeper than that.
The two of you had never argued, something he felt very proud of, considering he argued with most people. But not you. Never you.
The moment he decided that he needed to man up and ask you out wasnât anything fancy. You were sparring with Wanda across the gym, and he was simply watching you work in tandem. He watched the entire 15 minute session, and didnât take his eyes off you, even as you approached him.Â
âBuck, Iâm out of water, can I take a sip of yours?â
He nodded, âSure, Doll,â and tossed you his bottle.Â
You shot him a charming smile and opened the cap, and not-so-gracefully chugged half the bottle. You wiped your upper lip and handed it back to him.Â
âThanks, Jamie,â you breathily said, and jogged back to the arena.Â
His head was completely empty except for a single thought, tumbling through his desert mind like a tumbleweed.
Iâm going to marry her someday.
He shocked himself with the thought, he wasnât sure where it had come from. But he couldnât help the grin that snuck its way onto his lips as he realized he didnât disagree with the thought.
Of course before marriage is dating. One step at a time Buck.Â
After his realization, he had spent the next three days planning the perfect way to ask you out. He went through an entire list of ideas, but none of them seemed good enough for you. He wanted it to be perfect. But as the clock ticked on and he started running out of paper, he realized it was best to just be honest about his feelings.Â
You had just gotten back from a solo mission, and Bucky was hanging out in your room as you showered.
He was blushing like an idiot and fidgeting like crazy on your bed as he waited for you to hurry up. It was surprising he had so much self control as to not blurt it out while you were showering.
âOh, Bucky,â you called from the bathroom, the sound of the water pausing.
âWhatâs up?â
âCould you set an alarm on my phone for 7:30 A.M. tomorrow before I forget? I think I left it on the side table.â
âYou got it, Doll.â
âYouâre the best! Iâm almost done, Iâll be out in like two minutes,â you called, and soon after the sound of rushing water resumed.
Bucky grabbed your phone and typed in the passcode, his heart fluttering a little as he thought about how you trusted him enough to know it.
But the flutter stopped almost as quickly as it started, the moment your phone turned on and resumed on your text string with someone. He wouldâve ignored it, but a red heart at the top of the screen caught his eye.
Who the hell is âDaryl,â and why does he have a heart emoji next to his name?
Bucky couldnât help himself as his eyes flitted over your last texts.
Daryl â¤ď¸ Iâm back in town, lemme know when youâre aroundÂ
You About to leave for a quick mission, but Iâll be back tmw evening. I miss you sm :( how about we meet up Monday morning at 8 at Bernieâs cafe?
Daryl â¤ď¸ Lets do it. And I miss you too, canât wait to see your beautiful face!! I love you, be careful
You Love you too, and Im always careful đ
Bucky felt sick to his stomach. You had never mentioned a brother named Daryl, or any other kind of family member. And youâd told him about all your closest friends, and none of them were named Daryl. How did Bucky not know you had a boyfriend?
Bucky fought the urge to scroll up, and quickly tapped out of the app, and set the alarm you asked him to set.Â
So you were meeting this âDarylâ tomorrow morning?
Bucky heard the water stop, and the sound of the shower curtain shuffling.
Shit. You were getting out. Fuck, he wasnât ready to face you.
Youâd never mentioned you were in a relationship before. He would remember. How long have you been dating? And more importantly, why did you keep this from him? Did you feel like you couldnât trust him? Maybe you werenât as close friends as heâd thought.
âWhich movie did you want to watch tonight?â You asked, peeking out of the door with a turquoise towel wrapped around you.
âUm, Iâm actually really tired, suddenly. I think Iâm going to go to bed.â Bucky stuttered, avoiding your gaze as he quickly stood up.
âOh, okay,â you responded, disappointment and concern lacing your voice. âEverything okay?â
âEverything is fine. Glad you got back safe. Good night.â
With that, Bucky ducked out of your room and practically ran back to his.
Bucky tossed and turned, and once he got over his embarrassment, he settled into a familiar depressive feeling. Of course you didnât like him back. What the fuck was he thinking? Heâsâwell, heâs Bucky. Broken, only destined to ever be your friend. How could he be foolish enough to think you would love him like he loves you. At about hour 4, the heartbreak started turning into betrayal. Betrayal that you kept this from him. And soon enough, that betrayal festered into a kind of resentment, something heâd never felt for you before.
He didnât get much sleep that night.
Bucky checked the clock for the 20th time in the past 5 minutes. 7:45 A.M. You were probably about to leave. Bucky felt his heart clench. He was usually up by 7, and eating breakfast in the common area by 7:30. He sat at the barstool, dragging his spoon around his now soggy Coco Puffs, waiting for you to appear. Why he felt the need to torture himself, he didnât know.
Finally, he heard your steps coming down the hall.Â
And there you appeared, wearing the most beautiful sundress he had ever seen. It was lavender, and had small white flowers adorning the skirt, and it fell just above your knees.Â
Bucky took you in, and his momentary adoration turned back to his heartbreak. You were dressed up as if you were going on a date. There was no chance this wasnât your boyfriend.
âGood morning Bucky, did you sleep okay last night?âÂ
âYes.â He lied. Maybe you would tell him the truth if he asked. Yes it would hurt hearing the truth from your mouth, but he wanted to give you a chance to tell him your secret. âWhere are you headed?â
âTo meet a friend,â you nodded smoothly.Â
Maybe Bucky was crazy. Maybe he was overthinking all of this. Maybe Daryl really was just a friend.
âWhich friend?â
âPenny.â
So you were just flat out lying to him now. Bucky nodded and waited for you to leave before moping back to his room. He wanted to cry. And he did for a minute, or two, but his tears turned from sad to angry when he remembered you were now lying. You never lied to Bucky, and Bucky never lied to you. At least, he thought that was how it was. He clenched his fists, mad at you for betraying him, but more mad at himself for believing he could ever have you.
He didnât move from his bed.
âBucky?â Your voice emerged after three knocks to his door.
He couldnât get himself to respond.Â
The door slowly creaked open, a stream of light flooding his dark room.
âHey Buck. You okay? You seemed a little off this morning.â
âFine.â He mumbled, not turning over in bed to face you.
A pause.Â
âJamie, whatâs wrong?â You asked, closing the door behind you and flicking on the light.Â
âDonât call me that.â
âWhat?â You asked, slightly taken aback. You thought he loved your affectionate nickname for him.
âI donât want you to call me âJamieâ anymore.â
âOkayâŚâ
He felt the bed dip as you sat next to him.Â
âBucky,â you whispered, âplease talk to me.â
He sat up and gave you a pointed look. Was he being immature? Yes. But what could he do, he just discovered that his best friend has been lying to him, and doesnât love him.
âWhere were you?â He asked.
You furrowed your brows a moment, trying to piece together where he was going with this.Â
âI was at Bernieâs with Penny.â
âDonât lie to me.â He sneered.
Your eyes widened at his bite.
âIâm not lying? Bucky, what is going on?â
âWhatâs going on is that youâve been keeping the fact that you have a boyfriend from me. Why donât you want to tell me?â
âA boyfriend?â You blinked. âI donât have a boyfriend,â
âWhy wonât you be honest with me?â He yelled, and you scooted back.
âI am!â
âThen who is Daryl?â
âWhat?â
âI saw your texts last night, when you asked me to set your alarm.â Bucky looked down at his lap, ashamed.
âBucky,â you sighed, and a look of understanding crossed your face. A moment later you held out your phone to him.
âWhat?â He asked, dumbly looking at your outstretched hand. The screen was on your text string with Daryl.
âCall the number.â You simply said.
âWhat?â He repeated.
âTake my phone, and call the number.â
Confused and suspicious, Bucky grabbed your phone and hesitated over the call icon.Â
âGo ahead,â you urged.
He pressed the button.Â
Ring.
Ring.
Riâ
âHey!â A familiar feminine voice rang through the speaker. âWhatâs up hon?â
âHello?â Bucky said, looking from the phone to you to the phone.
âUh, hi? Is that Bucky?â
âPâPenny?â He sputtered.
âHey Bucky! Whatâs up, is everything okay? I thought Y/N was calling.â
âHey Pen,â you interjected, âEverythingâs fine, Iâll call you back in a bit, kayâ?â
âSure thing, bye, love ya,â Penny added, and hung up.
Bucky stared at the now blank phone, baffled.
âI donât understand.â
âBucky,â you sighed, and tilted his chin to look at you. âI donât have a boyfriend. Penny is in my contacts as âDarylâ because itâs my funny little nickname for her. My Dad has had a best friend since grade school named Daryl, and they donât see each other often, but when they do itâs like nothing has changed. They get along like no time has passed. I call Penny âmy Darylâ because I know that even if we donât talk for years, we are so close that I know we would be the exact same.â
Bucky sat quietly for a moment, simply taking in your story. He felt really stupid.
âIâm sorry,â he started, âI shouldnât have yelled at you. Iâm sorry I called you a liar.â He struggled to meet your gaze, ashamed of what he did.
âJamieâcan I call you Jamie now?â
He nodded sheepishly.
âJamie, I forgive you. But I wish you had just talked to me about it, and asked me. We are usually so good about being open with each other. What happened?â You asked, wide eyes looking into his.
âI know, Iâm sorry. I flipped out, I guess I was just shocked, because I was going toââ he licked his lips, âwell, I wasâŚâ
âYou can tell me, Bucky. Honesty, remember?â You soothed, placing your hand on his leg.
He gulped.
âI was going to ask you to be with me.â
You tilted your head, not quite understanding.
âLike, I was gonna ask if youâd let me be your boyfriend.â He mumbled. âSo when I saw that you were texting and saying âI love youâ to some guy, I guess I was just blindsided.â
âJames,â you smiled, moving yourself to sit on his lap. You brought your forehead against his. âYou silly, jealous man.â You gently stroked his cheek with your right hand. âYou want to be my boyfriend?"
"It sounds so juvenile, I don't know, I just want you to be mine, and for you to call me 'yours,'" he mumbled.
"I accept," you giggled, and watched his glittering eyes shoot to yours.
He had started to say something, but he stopped when you brought your soft lips to his.
âI'm so happy,â he whispered between kisses.
Suffice it to say, Bucky completed step one of the path to marrying you.

âBuck? Can you pass my clothes?â You had just stepped out of the shower and realised you left your clothes in your room, but Bucky didnât answer. âBuck?â He still didnât answer so you wrapped your towel around you and headed through to see the room empty. You begin to get dressed before you hear Samâs voice from the living room, he wasnât supposed to be here for another half hour. Every week Bucky and Sam took it in turns to host dinner for the three of you and Samâs girlfriend, Olivia. This week was yours and Buckyâs turn to host and you were super excited to serve your new recipe. Hearing the voices made you even more excited, but stressed as you still had some cooking to do before they were supposed to be here. You finish getting dressed and apply a little bit of makeup as quickly as you can. These dinners werenât formal so it didnât take long to get ready, they were mostly just so Sam and Bucky had some comfort after their missions, especially recently with them having to deal with John Walker. You take one last look in the mirror before heading through, until you hear something that stops you in your step.
âI mean I canât say Iâm surprised.. one look at you two and itâs obvious,â Sam tried to whisper but failed. âhow are you gonna do it?â Do what? You were confused what they were talking about, part of was tempted to interrupt but your curiosity took over.Â
âI donât know.. Itâs just..â Bucky was stuttering which he only did when he was nervous, this really made you worry about what they were talking about. âItâs just sheâs different from other girls, you know? And I know we havenât been together that long but I canât do it anymore. Do what anymore? âItâs not like I donât love what we have but I just feel like I need moreâ More? You couldnât help but overthink what you were hearing. They were talking about you, you weren't enough for him. I mean sure youâd thought that about yourself so many times but hearing it from the man you truly thought was the love of your life hurt.Â
âI know what itâs like when you find the one, itâs the best feeling in the world.â You couldnât see this but Sam had kissed Oliviaâs head after his words. âThis is gonna be good for you man, Iâm happy for you.âÂ
You couldnât bring yourself to hear anymore, the tears were already fighting their way out. You quietly walk back into your bedroom and try and calm down, you just had to get through tonight, just tonight and then you and Bucky could talk. You were at your happiest with Bucky, you thought Bucky was too but.. you didnât even want to finish that thought. Buckyâs happiness was the most important thing to you, and if that meant he wasnât with you anymore you would have to find a way to get through that. No matter how hard it would be for you, you just wanted him to be happy.
You took a few minutes to compose yourself, your eyes were red and a little puffy but not enough for anyone to notice. You hoped anyway. This time when you left your bedroom you made sure to close the door loud enough so they could hear you coming and hopefully change the subject.Â
âHey guys, youâre early.â you said as you walked in, Sam and Olivia both stood up to give you a hug as you came in.Â
âYeah sorry we were just a couple blocks over and it didnât make sense going all the way back home just to come out again,â Sam replied with a smile. âBuck said it was okay.âÂ
âOf course it is, you guys are always welcome, you know that!â You were surprisingly good at keeping how you really felt hidden, but with your words you couldnât help but think you would lose Sam and Olivia as friends when Bucky ended things between you, they were technically Buckyâs friends first but youâd grown to see them as practically family as your relationship grew. You tried to push that thought away, you just had to get through tonight you kept repeating to yourself in your head.Â
âYou okay doll?â Bucky asks as he wraps his arms around you. You plaster on a smile hoping he wouldnât sense anything being wrong.Â
âCourse! Just need to check on the food.â Normally Buckyâs touch helped you in situations like this but with what you heard his touch was only making you feel worse. You manage to untangle yourself from his arms and head to the kitchen. You notice that the ingredients and glasses were still laying out for the drinks youâd planned to make. âDo you guys want any drinks?âÂ
âYes please!â Sam and Bucky replied at the same time.Â
âIâll help you.â you heard Olivia say through the wall. It only takes a couple seconds before sheâs standing next to you in the kitchen. You and Olivia were like best friends, and sheâs the reason you and Bucky were together. You had worked together for a few years, you drifted a little when she left that job but it only took one reunion dinner to get your friendship back to normal. That was 2 years ago, and from that night on she had insisted on setting up you and Bucky. It took a while for the meeting to actually happen but once it did you knew he was the one for you. Was. Not anymore.Â
âAre you sure youâre okay?â Olivia asks quietly, she was aware of Buckyâs super soldier hearing and wanted to talk to you alone.Â
You nodded and forced another smile. âJust a busy week, my boss is still being a dick.âÂ
âUgh, you deserve so much better than having to work for that guy. Heâs a creep.â She said at a normal volume now. âYou should send Bucky after him, make him know he canât treat you like that just cause heâs the boss.â She brings her hands up to put air quotes around âbossâ, as heâs only technically the boss for the month while your real boss was on vacation.Â
âIâll manage.â You tried to play it off, you wouldnât have Bucky there to help you soon, and you needed to stand up for yourself.Â
âYou know he would do anything for you.âÂ
âYou think?âÂ
âYep. I mean have you seen the way he looks at you?âÂ
âHmm.â you mumbled. âHere,â You pass her two glasses with drinks in it. âtake these and Iâll bring the other two once iâve checked the food.âÂ
âOkay,â She starts to walk about but turns at the last minute, âIt smells good by the way, I canât wait.âÂ
âThanksâ you laughed as she walked away. She could tell there was something different with you tonight but she couldnât figure out what was wrong, it felt like it was more than just your boss being a dick.Â
You tried to take as long as you could checking the food without it being too long that someone would notice. After just under 10 minutes you walk through. âDinner should only be a little longer.â You pass a glass to Bucky and keep one for yourself, normally youâd sit close to Bucky but tonight you kept your distance, opting for the armchair in the corner. Bucky thought this was weird but he kept it to himself.Â
âSo, what did I miss?â You hoped they would somehow be able to explain away what you heard but your hope didnât last long as they started to talk about Samâs plans to get a lizard.Â
âSam, weâre not getting a lizard,â Olivia replied, âif you insist on getting a pet why canât it be a normal one like a cat or a dog.â This only reminded you of the plans you and Bucky made to adopt a cat, this was torture. Everything was reminding you of what you were about to lose.Â
âIâll look after it babe, you wonât even have to touch it.â Sam tried pleading.Â
âAnd when youâre away on missions?â Olivia argued back playfully.Â
âOkay, you got me.â You laughed a little at Sam releasing this was one battle he was going to lose. âWhat about you guys? You still planning on getting a cat?âÂ
Bucky looked at you as Sam asked the question, how were you supposed to answer this when you didnât even know the answer anymore, luckily Bucky notices the panic on your face and jumps in to answer.âÂ
âYeah man, we just have to find the time to get to the shelter.âÂ
âSee,â He turns his head to his left, staring at his girl, âY/n letâs Bucky get the pet he wants.â He was only teasing, he knew logically he couldnât get a lizard but it was fun to pretend.Â
âLizards and cats are not the same thing.âÂ
âY/n/n help me out here pleaseâ Sam pleads to you.Â
âSorry Sam, Iâm on Olivia's side here.â You reply whilst laughing.Â
âTraitorâ he mumbles under his breath making everyone laugh. Bucky noticed it wasnât your real laugh but he wasnât sure why. Normally you loved bantering back and forth with them.Â
You kept on chatting for 20 minutes before the oven timer went off, just in time as Bucky was about to tell an embarrassing story about you.
âAh! Saved by the bellâ you joked.Â
âDonât think I wonât forget to tell it after dinner!â Bucky shouts through, and you canât help but laugh before thinking about it deeper. Was that one of the things he couldnât do anymore, was he really embarrassed by you?Â
You tried so hard to push those thoughts away and focus on getting through the dinner, you started plating up the food you were so excited about only an hour before. But you got lost in your thoughts again and picked up the hot tray with your bare hand, burning yourself in the process. âShit.â The tray fell to the floor, luckily you had already plated everything and you were just moving it to the sink. Bucky rushes through and sees the tray on the ground and you gripping your hand towards your chest.Â
âWhat happened?â He comes towards you but you walk back away from him. âWhatâs wrong?â You could see the worry in his eyes but all you could think about was his words earlier. I can't do it anymore.Â
âIâm fine, Bucky.â You didnât mean to but you snapped back at him.Â
âYouâre not fine.â he moves closer and tries to reach for your hand but you pull it closer to you, he notices and steps back. âY/n?â You donât say anything. âLook please just run your hand under some cold water at least, please?âÂ
âCan you just take the food through, Iâll be there in a minute.â You tried to hide the shakiness in your voice but he could hear it. This brought him back to the start of your relationship, you both struggled to open up to each other but he thought you had both gotten better at it, which is why he was extra worried.
He nodded, you hated yourself for being the reason he was sad, he didnât deserve that. âIâm sorry.âÂ
âItâs okay doll, just know Iâm here for you okay?â You nodded but kept your gaze to the floor. He first grabs the tray with his left hand and puts it in the sink then picks up the plates and brings them through, having to make two trips. He doesnât want to leave you but he wants to give you the space you asked for. You run your hand under the cold tap for a couple of minutes before drying it off and making your way to the table.Â
âYou okay y/n?â Sam asks as you sit down next to Bucky, there were only 4 seats at the table so sitting next to him was your only option. Bucky turns to you, concern filling his eyes, he sends a smile your way and you try to send one back. He went to put his hand on your thigh but you see him stop himself and bring it back to his leg.Â
âYeah, all good, just burnt my finger on a tray. Howâs the food?âÂ
âItâs amazing as always.â Olivia answers.
âThanks again for having us over.â Sam adds
âItâs a new recipe, and no need to thank me. You know you are both welcome here anytime.â You reply, happy that they like it.Â
âTastes great Doll.â Buckyâs voice was quiet, almost like he was scared to speak, he had a slight smile growing as you turned to him.Â
âThank you Bucky.âÂ
The rest of the night went just like that, the four of you spoke about planning a trip to New Orleans, you felt yourself get excited about it but then grounded yourself, reminding yourself that it probably wouldnât go ahead. Well, it maybe would, you just wouldnât be there. Sam and Olivia stayed for a couple more hours, they couldnât stay as late as usual as Olivia had picked up an early shift at work the next day. When they left you saw Sam and Bucky whisper something to each other, but you were too far to hear anything.Â
Now you and Bucky were alone, it had just been the two of you for 10 minutes and none of you had broken the silence until now.Â
âY/n?â Bucky asks quietly, testing the atmosphere. You took the shakiness in his voice as a sign he was angry, when it was really because he was worried about you. You donât say anything but bring your head up so you could see him. âCan we talk?â Oh god. This was it. He was gonna do it right now. You werenât ready, you never would be but you couldnât do this right now.Â
âBucky, Iâm really tired, could we talk in the morning?â You were desperately hoping he would say yes.Â
âYeah..â He stands up and walks towards the bathroom, stopping slightly at you but speeds up again after a moment. âIâm gonna quickly shower then Iâll come to bed.âÂ
âOkay.â Almost a whisper but he heard it.Â
You go through to your room and get changed, ignoring the mess in the kitchen. That was something youâd worry about tomorrow. You crawled into bed, facing the wall and tried to force the sleep to take over. It doesnât take long for Bucky to come in next to you, you feel him hesitate but he wraps his arms around you and brings his mouth around to kiss your forehead. âI love you.âÂ
You hoped heâd think you were sleeping, and not know you were pretending. You tried to find comfort in his touch but it only reminded you that this time tomorrow you probably wouldnât have him wrapped around you. You could feel your eyes growing wetter as you thought about this but you forced yourself to stop before it turned into a full meltdown. That would for sure wake Bucky up. So you sat there in silence, sometimes you could hear a quiet mechanical murmur from Buckyâs arm, and sometimes the one big deep breath he takes every few minutes. By the time morning comes you only got about an hour of sleep, you were exhausted and anxious for what was going to happen today.Â
âDoll?â he pauses for a minute waiting for an answer, âAre you up?âÂ
âYeah, I'm up.â You donât turn around to face him like you normally would, you keep your eyes on the wall.Â
âI was thinking we could go to your favourite cafe today? The one with the-â You interrupt him and turn around to face him, sitting cross legged.Â
âItâs okay Bucky.â Heâs confused about what you mean so he stays quiet hoping you'll continue which you do. âI heard you talking with Sam and Olivia..â Buckyâs eyes nearly pop out of his head.Â
âYou heard us?â Shit. He wanted it to be a surprise.Â
âI did. So can you just do it now? Get it over and done with, so we can both move on.â
âWhat? You want me to do it right now?âÂ
âYes. Please, just do it.â You knew you were coming across harsh but you needed this torture to end.Â
âErm. Okay..â He stood up out of bed and walked over to his dresser, and started to dig through one of his drawers. âThis isnât really how I pictured doing this and I thought youâd be more excited but..â Excited? Why would you be excited over losing him? Once he finds what he was looking for he walks back over and brings himself down to his knees beside the bed.Â
âBucky what-âÂ
âMy turn to talk doll..â What the hell was happening. âY/n, you have been the best thing in my life since the very first day I met you. It might sound cliche but youâre the missing piece I always thought Iâd never find. I know this might seem fast but..â He pulls a small box from behind his back. Oh my god. He was proposing. What. You wanted to stop him but the words wouldnât come out, it was like your mouth was glued shut. â.. I donât think I could ever feel happier than I do right now with you but It would mean the absolute world to me if you-âÂ
âWait!! Stop!â Buckyâs smile dropped. Heâd been scared to ask you but he didnt think rejection was actually a possibility.Â
âWhat?â You stood up and started pacing back and forth, panic setting in.Â
âOh my god Bucky. Stand up!â He stood up slowly and closed the ring box, the loud click making things even realer. âBucky, what were you talking about with Sam and Olivia?âÂ
âI thought you heard me? I was telling them I wanted to propose, I want to spend the rest of my time with you. This definitely isn't how I wanted it to go. Iâm sorry if I.. I thought youâd want this too.âÂ
âOh my god Bucky. I am so sorry. Iâm so sorry, I messed up.â You were beginning to lose control of your breathing and your eyes were starting to burn, you were still pacing back and forth. âI thought you wanted to end things, I thought you were done with us.â
âWhat?! Why did you think that?â He had never been so confused in his whole life.Â
âYou told them you wanted more, and.. that I wasnât like other girls.. and..â The tears had escaped now and it was hard to talk properly. âand you said you couldnât do this a-anymore.âÂ
âOh baby.â Bucky walks over to you and pulls you gently to the bed, he sits next to you but keeps one of his arms wrapped around you. âI did say those things but not in the way you think. Did you listen to the rest of what we said?â You shook your head, which only made your growing headache worse. âWhen I said I wanted more I was talking about marrying you, in case you haven't figured that out by the -I donât even know if i can call that a proposal- but doll, I want to marry you, I wanted to show you how much I love you and how serious I was about us.â He tries to turn himself slightly so he can see your face properly.Â
âI was right when I said you arenât like other girls, I donât want you to be like anyone else. I want you to be you, my girl. The girl I fell in love with the first day I met you. Iâve been planning to propose for a while but I couldnât keep it in any longer, thatâs what I meant when I said I couldnât do this anymore. I couldnât wait any longer to ask you. I love you so much, doll.âÂ
Oh god. You were so embarrassed. You had gotten everything so wrong. âBucky, I'm so sorry. I didnât, I donât want things to end with us. Iâm so sorry.âÂ
âItâs okay baby, really itâs okay. I just wished youâd talked to me about it. You can come to me about anything, you know what right?âÂ
âI do, I promise. I just panicked. I thought I was going to lose you.â Your breathing had started to slow down and you felt like you had control over it again.
âNope. Youâre never getting rid of me. I love you too much for that,â He brought his face down to yours and brushed your noses together before wrapping his arms tightly around you. âAnd I missed you way too much to ever let go of you again.âÂ
âI love you too, Buck, so much.. but youâre squeezing me.â For the first time since you heard their conversation you had a real smile on your face and you laughed at him holding you so tight. You were happy. Bucky was happy.Â
âThereâs the laugh I missed so much. Oh and,â he pulled away just for a second to look into your eyes, placing each of his hands on your shoulders and with a serious voice spoke again, âdonât for one second think thatâs how my real proposal will go, Iâm gonna make it special, just like you deserve.â he pulls you into his arms and lays you both down.
âI canât wait, but before you do that..â
âMhmm?â
âCan we go to the shelter today? I think itâs about time we got that cat.â
âYou have no idea how happy that makes me dollâÂ
Maybe it wasnât healthy how much yours and Buckyâs happiness relied on each other but for you two it worked. Things were perfect.Â

Was It A Mistake - Part 1
Pairing: Bucky x Fem Reader Chapter Summary: You and Bucky broke up but still remained friends. When you go on a shopping trip with your best friend, you learn a devastating thing. Warnings: Angst (duh its me lol), Arguments
Series Masterlist
You punch the punching bag in a series of combinations. Sweat dripping from your head and y/h/c hair. Youâre the only one in the gym right now, but you knew that would change. You had a standing sparing appointment with your favorite super soldier.
Everyone in the tower thought it was weird that you and Bucky remained such good friends. You both dated for 3 years, and were hot and heavy. You realized the last six months, of your relationship, Bucky was pulling away from you. It broke your heart; so you decided distance yourself also, in preparation of him breaking up with you. You couldn't take the stress of waiting for him to break it off, so you begrudgingly did it. It completely killed you, but he didn't seem ultimately ruined, and you both decided to continue just being friends.
You were nervous that it would be awkward, but it wasnât. You were just happy he was still in your life. You know you still loved him, but sometimes that's not enough. You were obviously not enough. That thought runs through your mind as you punch. You shake your thoughts from your head as you heard the gym doors close behind you.
âTiring yourself out before I even get a chance to beat you fairly, doll?â
You turned around and see Bucky walking over the the bench to place his water and towel down. He's wearing navy blue basketball shorts that hung perfectly low on his hips, and as usual, no shirt. You couldnât help admire the beautiful specimen in front of you.
âHa, just warming up Buck. Donât worry, I still have enough energy to kick your ass!â You yell, while pulling the tape off your hands.
You grab your towel and water and walk over to him, drinking and wiping your sweat.
He laughed, âWhatever you say. Shall we?â He asked walking toward the sparring mats.
After 30 minutes, and Bucky taking you out for the 5th time, you gave up. He offered his hand to help you get up. âOne day⌠Iâll get you down⌠mark my words.â You say through your panted breath.
Bucky laughed. âCanât wait.â
You both walk over the bench to grab a drink. You wipe your face with your towel when you hear the doors to the gym. Nat walks over to you both. âHey guys!â She says smiling.Â
âHey Nat, you still up for shopping later?â you ask.
âAbsolutely! Meet me in the common room at 1?â She asks.
You nod as you take a drink. You start walking out of the gym when you notice Nat and Bucky give each other knowing smirk and whispering to each other. It makes you feel uneasy, but ignore it as you head out to shower.
â
Later that day, you and Nat are shopping at the local mall. You sit outside the changing room as Nat tries on a new red dress. She comes out and looks in the mirror, turning at different angles to admire herself. You canât help but notice how gorgeous she is. The dress fits her curves perfectly.
âOh Nat, you definitely need to get that!â You say with a smile.
âYeah, I think I will. It will be absolutely perfect.â She said as she turns and looks over the shoulder to see how it looks.
âPerfect for what?â You ask.
Nat looks at you through the mirror. You can see she looks⌠nervous? She turns toward you and gives you a small smile. âBucky asked me out on a date. We've been hanging out a lot lately, and we wanted to finally give dating a try.â
Your jaw and stomach dropped. You can already feel the tears forming, but you internally yell at yourself to keep it together. You knew you weren't good enough. You would never be enough! You take a deep breath and close your eyes for a moment, willing the tears to disappear. When you open you see Nat still looking at you, waiting for your reaction.
âU-uh, wow! I, um, I-I didnât know you guys⌠wereâŚwere talking.â
You cringe at your shaking voice. Nat looks at you with minimal sympathy in her eyes, which pisses you off. You didn't understand how this happened. Nat knew what happened between you and Bucky, as she was your best friend. You confided in her about everything, including that you are still in love with him. And now you learn she has been moving in on him and they are going on a date?!
âIt wasnât a planned thing. I swear, and I'm sorry I didnât tell you. I know should've, but IâmâŚâ She trails off, looking down at her hands. You have never seen her look so nervous.Â
âYouâre what, Natalia?â You say slowly standing, getting angrier.
She looks at you. âIâm falling for him, hard. And he told me that he's falling for me too.â
She might as well had slapped you in the face. You grab your bags without saying another word and left. You ignore her calls for you. You finally let the tears come down your face as you head out to grab a cab to head back to the tower.Â
-
You try to control yourself as you ride the elevator up to the residential floors of the tower. As soon as you walk out, you see him with a concerned look on his face. You figured Nat called him and told him what happened, but you couldnât deal with him right now. Just looking at him caused the tears to come down. You quickly turn and head to your room.
âY/N, please. Donât run away from me,â You hear him call.
You try and outrun him, but he was so much faster. Before you even got a chance to close the door, he pushed his way into your room.
âGet out!â You scream.
He looks devastated. You've never yelled at him, even when you guys fought when you were together. âY/N, please. Talk to me,â he begs.
He was so confused by your reaction. You're the one who broke his heart. He was ready to marry you and then was told that you wanted to end things with him. It crushed him, so he distanced himself, hoping to ease the pain. You eventually did end it, and asked to be friends. He didnât fight it because he was hoping you would change your mind. He has been miserable for months, pretending to be friends with you, when all he wanted is to be with you.
Nat helped him by being there and listening to him whine about how much he missed you. He opened up to her about feeling like he wasn't enough, and she showed him that he was enough for her. He couldnât help but start developing feelings. Nat was the only one who knew how he felt about you, but is still willing to try with him. Willing to help him move on from you.
âPleaseâŚ.â he whispered, on the verge of tears.
A sob escapes your lips. âBuck⌠why? Why Nat? Why my best friend?â
You knew it didnât matter who he was dating, but you needed to know why her. He shook his head, sniffing.Â
âWhen you broke up with me, I-I was miserable. I didnât know what to do. Nat was there, and she let me confide my feelings to her. As time went on, I started to develop feelings. IâŚ. I didnât think you would care! You didnât want to be with me! You were the one who wanted to be friends! Iâm sorry, but I didn't think you'd care," he said the last part in a whisper as he silently cried.
You were confused as you took in what he said. He was miserable? I broke his heart? He didn't want to break up? He confided in Nat, while you also confided in Nat? You look at him in shock. He was confused by your reaction.Â
âI⌠I donât understand. You became distant, which is why I broke up with you. I thought you didnât want me anymore; that I wasn't enough for you. I thought us being friends was better than losing you all together.â You said. Bucky stares at you confused. âNat⌠Nat talked to you about us?â You asked, and Bucky silently nodded.Â
Betrayed. That was the word that went through your mind. Your so-called best friend knew that both you and Bucky still loved each other, but kept it quiet so she could take him. You couldnât believe it! Bucky obviously didnât realize what was happening either.
âIâŚ. I need to think.â Bucky said, leaving you alone in your room.
You couldnât move. All you kept thinking was that there was miscommunication somewhere between you and Bucky, and neither of you actually wanted to break up. Nat knew this, but kept it quiet and made a move on Bucky. But why did Bucky become distant in the first place? There are so many questions in your head that you can barely think straight. You had to get to the bottom of this, somehow.
One thing you already know is, Nat back stabbed you. You will never forgive her for this.

Pulling up outside the home you share with your boyfriend, you are immensely glad that itâs Friday afternoon and that you have a whole weekend to share with him.
Itâs been a week from hell at work - as a teacher, you donât get many of those but this week thereâs been multiple teachers out with the flu and a severe lack of emergency teachers, so each of you have had to combine your classes with at least 1 other, making for the normal student-teacher ratios to be blown out so bad that you think tonight youâll need a bottle of wine, instead of just a glass, to relax.
You unlock the front door, put your coat in the coat closet, toe-off your shoes and put your bag on the hall table. Youâll go through the papers you have to grade after dinner.
âBucky, Iâm home. Where are you?â
You hear his voice from upstairs âHere my love.â
Trudging up the stairs you poke your head into your bedroom but heâs not there âBuck?â
âMouse, Iâm in here.â You giggle at the nickname he gave you early in your friendship, before you got together. He said it was because you squeaked like a little mouse when you got excited. Then you got together and he heard what you sounded like when you got really excited and you were nothing like a mouse. But the name stuck, and it made you happy each time you heard it.
Walking into the spare room, you see his tactical gear laid out on the bed and his duffle bag half packed.
âMission?â You asked angrily.
âYeah, Sam called me earlier and said they needed my expertise on this one.â
âJames, we agreed that you were done with missions.â
âI know, but this is a serious one Mouse. We might be able to finally take down Hydra for good. I canât sit out on this one, not after everything they did to me for all of those years.â
He walked over and cupped your face with his large hands. âI promise, this will be the last one.â
âI donât like this but I kind of understand. But this has to be the last one, James. Iâm not kidding, I want to start a family with you and I canât do that if Iâm constantly worried that youâre not coming home.â
âOf course my love, the last one. No more after this.â
With a heavy sigh you ask âSo, when do you leave?â
âFirst thing in the morning. Samâs picking me up at 0600.â
âThen come to bed with me, you can finish that packing later, or in the morning.â
âOk, letâs go.â
The next morning
You open your eyes and itâs still dark. The bed beside you is empty but not yet fully cold, so you know your soldier only got out of the bed in the last 10-15 minutes. He would not dare have left without saying goodbye, so you glance at the clock on the bedside table to reveal itâs approx 5.45am.
Listening carefully you can hear him moving about downstairs so you figure he did a quick finish of packing and moved downstairs so as not to disturb you.
His heavy footsteps sounded on the stairs and you knew he was fully dressed in his tactical gear, including the big boots he wore.
He poked his head in the door and you smiled âMorning Soldierâ
âUghâ he groaned âDonât start something I canât finish. Sam will be here in around 10 minutes.â
âI know, I just wanted you to have something to remember to make you hurry home safely. I promise, when you get home, we will finish that. For now, come lay down so we can snuggle for a bit.â
He jumped on the bed beside you and took you in his arms, pressing loving kisses all over your face and neck.
Your arms wound around his neck and you squeezed as tight as you could, knowing that however long this mission took, these hugs and kisses would have to tide you over until his return. The churning in your stomach at the danger he was about to face was ever present and would not cease until he was safe in your arms once again.
In what seemed like mere seconds, you heard the quiet rap on the door that signalled Sam was here.
âDonât goâ you whispered to him âPlease?â
âI have to love, but Iâll be home before you know it.â
He planted one last kiss on your forehead and stood up. You clung to him like a koala and he just chuckled.  âMouse, if you donât let go, Iâll open the door and Sam will see all of this.â
You giggled and reluctantly let go, pulling your robe on and tying it tightly over your naked body.
Grabbing his hand and intertwining your fingers with his, you walked down the stairs with him and stood silently as he opened the front door and greeted Sam.
âHey lovebirdsâ Sam said. âSorry to steal this one away from you, Iâll have him back safe and sound as soon as possible. Letâs go Buck, wheels up in 45 minsâ. He walked back to his car and got in ready to go.
Bucky leant his forehead against yours, both of you with your eyes closed, soaking in these last moments together for a while. âIâll let you know whatâs happening when I can. Iâm going to miss you my little Mouse. I love you, stay safe for me and when I get home, weâll get started on that family of ours.â
Tears in your eyes, all you could do was nod and press your lips against his. You feel like youâre being overly dramatic like heâs never coming home but thereâs always that possibility so you have to prepare just in case.
âSo long my love, not goodbye. Until we see each other againâ you pushed him out the door towards Sam and whatever might happen in the next days or weeks.â
Over the next 10 days, you heard from Bucky twice. They had to go dark most of the time due to it being Hydra and how easy they always seemed to be able to ascertain what the Avengers were doing, where they were and their plans.
Tony was sure they had a mole on the inside, so this mission was down to only the people who needed to know so in reality it was just Tony, Steve, Sam that knew where they were going and what the plan was beforehand. Once Sam and Bucky were alone on the Jet, Sam was able to let Bucky know the details.
The last time you heard from him was 4 days ago. Theyâd located the Hydra base and were planning their attack. That was all he could tell you, apart from the fact that he had some cuts and bruises but was otherwise healthy. He also told you that heâd wouldnât be able to call you again until they were on the way home, so you werenât sure exactly when that would be.
The Thursday following, about 12 days after they left, you got a text message from Sam.Â
Your mind was racing about what injuries he had, however you managed to calm yourself down, take the rest of your classes that day and head straight to the compound from there. Youâd let your boss know and that you wouldnât be in tomorrow so they could organise a substitute teacher for your classes.
At the compound
Sam was out the front waiting for you when you arrived. You stopped the car and just left it where it was and ran up to him. He gave you a big hug and looked you in the eyes.
âItâs not serious, ok. I know you didnât believe me earlier, but he is ok.â
âThen why is he in the medical wing Sam?â
âWell, he broke his arm, so they had to set it to make sure it healed properly. The last X-ray they did showed itâs almost all healed.â
âWhy couldnât you just say that Sam, Iâve been stressing all afternoon.â
âWell I told you he was ok but yeah, next time Iâll..â
âThere isnât going to be a next time Sam.â
Sam gave you a quizzical look and said âOk, go see your boy, you know where to go yeah?â You nodded. âGive me your keys, Iâll park your car for you and see you up there.â
You threw your keys at Sam as you ran towards the elevators, heading to the 10th floor, which was the medical wing.
Bruce saw you as you burst through the doors and he pointed towards the room that Buck was in, with a grin on his face.
Pushing the door open, you hesitated, he appeared to be asleep, with a cast on his right arm. You just stood and watched him for what seemed like forever, then you heard him say âDon't just stand there mouse, come give me some sugar.â
Laughing, you skipped over to the bed and climbed up to lay next to him. He turned his head and kissed you before opening his eyes and looking into yours.
âNo more Mouse..â
Time jump.. 3 months later..
The last 3 months since Bucky came home from his last mission had been bliss. Work had evened out, with the warmer weather there werenât as many absences from illness and the end of the school year was approaching.
Buckyâs arm had healed nicely and in record time. You moved into a larger place and had plans for going away on a vacation for about 3 weeks during the summer holidays to Florida. The plan was to relax, spend time together, hit the beach and spend a few days at Disney because neither of you had been there before. Youâd also been working hard at starting the family that you both wanted so badly.
A few days after school finished for the year, you had been out doing some grocery shopping, and buying some new things for the Florida vacation. On your return home, you heard Bucky speaking in a low voice in the sun room out the back of the house.
You put the groceries on the kitchen bench and headed out to see who he was talking to. He was on the phone and as soon as he saw you, he stopped talking and you heard him say âMouse is home, Iâll call you back laterâ
âHey babe, who was that?â
âI missed you mouse, that was Sam.â
âOh, what did he want?â
âHe wanted to talk to me about a mission.â
âNo.â
âNow just listen before you say a flat out no, ok?â
âNo Bucky, we agreed, even when you got back from the last mission the first thing you said was no more. â
âI know, but you know how we didnât eradicate Hydra on the last mission like weâd hoped, this time we can do it. The plan is solid, they have no idea weâre coming.â
âWait, youâve already said yes to this havenât you?â
âWell, yeah, I thought youâd be ok with it. We can rid the world of Hydra, mouse. I have to go.â
âThatâs what you said last time Buck and look where we are now? I canât keep doing this. I love you, but Iâve already told you, I canât have a family with someone who keeps  putting himself and our family in danger like this. I know I knew this about you when we got together but I thought we were on the same page about this?â
âWe are but..â
âSee, Buck, if we are on the same page, thereâs no but to it. Look, I canât force you not to go, you know how I feel about this, you need to make your decision about what you want, what is most important to youâ
With that, you turned away from him and walked slowly away, up the stairs, shutting the bedroom door behind you.
Later that night
Bucky opened the bedroom door, having given you plenty of space. He lay down on the bed beside you, pulling you tight to his chest and then pushing his finger under your chin to lift your face to his.
âMouse, donât cry. I love you, you know I do, but I feel like I have to do this. I have to help rid the world of this menace that is Hydra.â
âI know Buck, but you agreed to this without even talking to me, without even considering my thoughts or feelings. No thought to the fact that weâd agreed, or I thought we had, that you were not doing this any more.â
âI did consider all of that, donât you want our kids to come into a world without Hydra?â
âBut where does it end Buck. When is it enough. What if you donât get rid of Hydra, like last time? What if another organisation pops up thatâs just as bad or worse? Itâs hard enough for me to say goodbye to you each time you go on a mission and have a lump in my throat until I hear from you or youâre home safe. I am not putting my child through that feeling too.â
âI know Mouse, but I feel like itâs my responsibility.â
âSo youâve made up your mind?â
âYeah I have. Donât be sad Mouse. It will be ok.â
âWhen do you leave then?â
âTomorrow night but I have to go to the compound for briefings about lunchtime tomorrow.â
Bucky stroked your head and back as you burst into tears and sobbed until you felt like you had no tears left.
Heâd made up his mind to go and so had you. Maybe he knew deep down but you were determined that these hours would not be sad, that youâd both have these memories to survive on.
Reaching your face up to his you kissed him. The two of you spent the whole night making love and holding each other, until you had no more energy left and you fell asleep in his arms.
The next morning, you woke up to an empty bed. You went downstairs and found him in the sunroom with a cup of coffee.
âShouldnât you be leaving soon?â
âYeah, Iâm heading out once Iâve finished this cup of coffee. Sit with me please?â
Sitting next to him on the couch, you didnât know what to do with yourself. You were sure he could feel the tension in your body, but he didnât say anything.
Walking him to the door when Sam pulled into the driveway, he leant in to give you a hug and one final kiss before he left. âSo long my love, I love you so much, Iâll see you when I get home.â
Tears in your eyes you kissed him back, saying âGoodbye Buck, come home safeâ
He walked towards Samâs car and yo shut the door before he saw the tears cascading down your cheeks, and you headed to the bedroom.
Over the next 2 weeks Bucky tried to contact you multiple times. He wasnât stressed when his first messages went unanswered, but the longer it went in time, the more concerned he became.
The mission was a success in that they finally got rid of Hydra once and for all. He was excited that he didnât have to worry about them any more, but his stomach was churning on his way home because he still had not heard from you.
Opening the front door, the house felt eerily still and quiet. He yelled for you and ran around the house searching but couldnât find you.
His last stop was the sunroom at the back. The room you had shared a coffee with him in, the morning he left for this mission.
You werenât there, but he noticed an envelope on the coffee table, with his name in your writing. He felt his stomach lurch, hoping you had just left him a note saying that you were at the shops and would be back soon, but deep down he knew what the letter would say.
He pulled the letter out, not noticing another piece of paper float out to the floor when he opened it.
James, By the time youâre reading this, Iâll be far away. This was not an easy decision for me to make, particularly now, but it was a necessary one.
That last night, I wanted to ask you if there was anything I could say that would change your mind? Itâs because I had something to tell you but I wanted you to stay because you wanted to, because you chose us and our future life and family.
Please donât try and find me, live your life your way, I donât want to hold you back from anything you want to do. I hope you find what you are looking for.
I love you more than life itself and I always will. Love, Mouse
Bucky hung his head, tears falling to the floor. It was at that point that he noticed the additional piece of paper that had fallen out of the letter. He picked it up, turned it over and the tears flowed even harder.

This was such a good read 𼺠Theyâre perfect for each other
cry baby
bucky barnes x fem reader
words: 7.3k
warnings: 18+ ONLY, smut, edging, overstimulation, crying during sex, flushed cheeks, friends to lovers, misunderstandings, lapslock.
a/n: this is arguably one of my absolute fave fics i've ever written. she is near and dear to my heart :') i've provided the link for ao3 if you prefer to read it there! it's originally posted in two parts but i've combined them here. any and all mistakes are mine. feedback is encouraged & appreciated âĄ
âthe boys are running late,â natasha informs you when you make your way to the table sheâs conquered in the busy cafe. âsam texted a couple minutes ago and said he and bucky got stuck in traffic.â
itâs the second tuesday of the month, which means itâs brunch day. itâs a running tradition thatâs stood for the four of you since your college days. the time and place has changed over the years, but everyone does their absolute best to attend every time. these tuesdays are your favorite, naturally.
you plop into an empty chair across from her with a heavy sigh. âgood, that means i have time to bitch about how fucking horny i am before they get here.â
she snorts, taking a delicate sip of her latte. âwhatâs new?â she wonders sarcastically.
âyou donât understand,â you begin, leaning into the table, gripping the edge tightly. âitâs been months, and not like, a few, i mean itâs coming up on a year.â
natashaâs eyebrows shoot up in surprise. âa year? what about that guy you went on a few dates with a while back? didnât anything happen with him?â
âno,â you grumble, sitting back in your chair and crossing your arms. you huff. âand even if something had happened, i doubt it would have been satisfying. i can probably count on one hand the amount of times sex has been even kinda pleasurable for me.â
âsounds like youâre picking shitty partners.â
you scowl. âi know that, but itâs not my fault. all these stupid men keep promising theyâre gonna fuck me ten ways to sunday and not a single one of them can even get me to wednesday.â
natasha laughs. âyou poor thing.â
âyouâre really not helping me here,â you whine with a pitiful pout on your lips. âyou are getting routine dickings, you have sam! i am not so lucky here.â you notice her attention flicks to somewhere behind you, but youâre not finished with your rant. ânat, iâm serious. all of my sex encounters are the equivalent of asking someone to scratch my back and then they scratch literally anywhere but the spot that itches. i want to be fucked so good that i cry, justâcompletely reduced to tears. is that too much to ask?â
nat is hiding her smile behind her hand, amusement painted across her sharp features. someone clears their throat behind you and you pinch the bridge of your nose. sam and bucky occupy the empty seats, sam next to natasha and bucky next to you. theyâre both sporting wide grins, looking far too pleased about stumbling into this conversation.
sam opens his mouth, no doubt to make a smartass comment, but you cut him off before he can get a good inhale in.
ânot a fucking word,â you grouse with a finger pointed in his direction.
he presses a hand to his chest, expression offended. âi would never make a joke about your truly tragic excuse of a sex life.â
bucky snickers quietly, but turns into a cough at your glare.
âiâll murder you,â you promise.
âleave her alone, boys,â natasha says, rolling her eyes, though sheâs visibly biting back her own laughter.
you huff, digging your wallet out of your purse. âi hate all of you,â you announce before getting up and going to stand in line to order.
bucky follows a moment later, coming to stand at your side and throwing an arm around your shoulders.
âthat bad, huh?â he asks.
you donât have to look at his face to know heâs probably smirking right now.
âfuck off,â you retort, not bothering to push his arm away since you know heâd only put it right back.
âaw, come on, donât be like that,â he jests, âyou know we just like to poke a little fun.â
you roll your eyes, throwing him an exasperated look. âyeah, but that was something only nat was supposed to hear. i hate talking about sex with you and sam because you two wouldnât understand.â
âthatâs not true,â bucky insists, which makes you roll your eyes again. âitâs not!â
âfirst of all, samâs got natasha, so we both know theyâre more than satisfied.â bucky tilts his head in acquiescence. âand you donât have to worry about if youâre gonna have an orgasm when you hook up with somebody. men have it so easy.â
itâs probably not the best thing to talk about in line of a busy cafe (especially since you havenât decided between a blueberry muffin or the ham and cheese croissant, and thereâs only one person ahead of you now and youâd really rather not be discussing your lack of sex in front of an innocent barista) but it sort of feels good to get this off your chest, even if itâs to bucky.
âokay, definitely not true,â he replies with a frown. âiâm not always guaranteed an orgasm.â
you give him a skeptical glance. âi find that hard to believe.â
this time, itâs bucky who rolls his eyes. âwhatever, whether or not i come when i have sex with someone isnât what i was gonna talk about when i came over here.â
the person in front of you finishes their order and then youâre stepping up for your turn.
âhi, what can i get you today?â the young barista asks with a smile.
âa large mocha iced coffee with sweet cream and a blueberry muffin, please.â you pause, contemplating, then add, âand a ham and cheese croissant.â
if you canât get fucked within an inch of your life then food will become your lover, you reason.
âjust a black coffee for me, please,â bucky tells the girl, taking his wallet out of his back pocket and handing over his card to pay before you can stop him.
âi couldâve paid for mine,â you mumble.
âyou also could just say thank you,â he replies with a short laugh as he ushers you to the side to wait for your order.
you pinch his hip, pouting. âthank you.â
âwhy does your gratitude come with violence?â he asks, rubbing the sore spot.
âyou know how i am when people do nice things for me.â
âyou should be used to it by now,â he points out.
âwell, iâm not,â you huff. âanyway, what did you come over here to talk about then?â
bucky reaches up to scratch the back of his neck, uncharacteristically shy all the sudden. âuh, well. i dunno, i just thought⌠you know, since youâre notâi mean, not that you couldnât be, justâyou havenât been, so maybe⌠fuck.â
âspit it out,â you say with a giggle, wondering what in the worldâs got him so tongue-tied.
âwhy donât you let me?â he blurts, averting his gaze immediately after.
you tilt your head in confusion. âlet you what?â
he sighs heavily, working his jaw in frustration. âyou knowâŚâ he begins, digging his thumbnail into a knick on the countertop in front of you. âlet me fuck you until you cry.â
âwhat?â
just then, your order is called. bucky quickly grabs it and turns to make his way back to the table, but you grab his arm to stop him.
âi donât think so, you come back here right now and explain yourself,â you demand.
his eyes lift heavenward. âitâs just an idea, okay?â
âbucky, youâre talking about crossing a huge line. you canât just throw that out all willy nilly!â
âi know,â he replies earnestly. âand itâs notââ he grimaces at the phrasing, âwilly nilly. youâre one of my best friends. i wouldnât jeopardize that for anything, and i wouldnât offer this if i thought that it could. this is something thatâs obviously affecting you negatively in your life and iâm willing to help. i trust you, and iâm pretty sure you trust me, yeah?â
âof course i trust you,â you say, frowning.
he shrugs. âso, then itâs just⌠a friend helping another friend.â
âyou make it sound so simple,â you muse in wonder.
âthink about it?â he implores.
you swallow roughly, biting the inside of your cheek. âfine. iâll think about it.â
he nods and walks back over to the table where sam and natasha are waiting. you hesitate for only a split second before following.
needless to say, youâre distracted for the rest of brunch.
***
you: what even makes you think you could fuck me until i cry anyway?
itâs been nearly a week, and as much as you hate to admit it, youâre actually considering taking buckyâs offer. itâs all you can think about since he brought it up. you canât lie, youâve always thought bucky was attractive, but ever since you were gently but firmly placed in the friend category back in university, you never allowed yourself to think of there ever being more between the two of you. heâs a wonderful friend to have and youâd have been an idiot to pass it up. bucky is kind and generous and just enough of an asshole to keep things interesting without it being a problem.
but this⌠this has left you reeling. why would he make such an offer after only ever keeping things strictly friendly and platonic in your relationship? and more importantly, where does he get the confidence to think he could follow through?
bucky: experience?
you make a face at your phone, furiously typing your reply.
you: ew. do you realize how douchey that sounds?
bucky: well, itâs not douchey if itâs true.
you: says you
bucky: and a few other people :)
bucky: youâd know it too if youâd let me fuck you
you exhale harshly through your nose, tapping your foot on the floor anxiously, carefully thinking of what you should say next.
you: itâs apparently a tall request, and thus far, nobodyâs been able to deliver. you can understand my skepticismâŚ
bucky: if i donât leave you shivering and twitching with aftershocks of pleasure, in a mess of sweat and come, and tears stained on your cheeks, then i will have failed you.
your thighs squeeze together at the mental image that brings you. jesus christ, if heâs half as good at fucking as he is dirty talking then he just might do as heâs promising.
bucky: so? what do you say? wanna give it a try?
biting your lip, you give yourself a moment to weigh the pros and cons in your mind one last time.
it doesnât take you very long to make your decision.
you: okay. weâll try.
***
itâs a slightly overcast sunday when bucky comes over with the direct intention to fuck you. it should be weird, but strangely, all you feel is anticipation. maybe itâs because you know him so well and know that, no matter what, heâd take care of you.
(or, maybe itâs because those repressed college-aged feelings are doing their best to resurface, even though you steadfastly continue to ignore them.)
youâd taken a thorough shower earlier to ease the little bit of nerves you had when youâd woken up. cleaning up the small mess your apartment gathered over the last couple weeks helped, as well, and soon you found yourself standing in front of your lingerie drawer with your lips pursed.
you werenât sure if you should even bother with it, but it felt you wouldnât be putting in any effort into this encounter if you didnât at least pick out nice underwear. so, with a pleased nod, you settle on some simple black lace panties and a matching bralette. not too much, but enough to satisfy yourself, and hopefully bucky. you pick out a simple sundress to put on over it, since you wonât be wearing much of anything once bucky gets here. that thought has you flushing, but you ignore it to put on some makeup, just to freshen up your face.
by the time he knocks on your door, youâve already finished a glass of wine and are pouring yourself a second.
he smiles when open the door, a bit boyishly, greeting you with a quiet, âhi.â
âhi,â you return, just as soft. you open the door wider. âcome in.â
he walks passed you, stopping to toe his shoes off and hang his jacket on one of the hooks.
âdo you want a glass of wine?â you ask as you head to the kitchen to retrieve your own from the counter.
bucky follows, stopping in the entryway with his hands in his pockets. âno, thank you.â
you nod, taking a sip from your glass, trying to figure out what to say. the air feels a little awkward and youâre not sure how to fix it.
ânervous?â he wonders curiously.
you shake your head. ânot really.â
he quirks a brow. âthen whatâs wrong?â
âi donât know,â you murmur. âi guess iâm just worried weâre making a mistake.â
he hums. you take a larger sip of your wine.
with cautious steps, he comes closer to you. âwhat if i promise that things wonât be weird after?â
âyou canât really promise that, though.â
âsure i can,â he says, smiling. âitâs me and you. weâve been friends for so long. plenty of people have sex and stay friends after.â
youâre not just âpeopleâ to me, you think.
you sigh, frustrated with yourself. you canât deny how badly you want this. itâs all youâve been able to think about since that day in the cafe. but the thought of losing bucky is heartbreaking, and you donât want your stupid horniness to be the reason that you ruin a friendship, even if he was the one to offer sex.
âwhy donât we go make out on the couch for a little while first?â he suggests after a momentâs pause.
you snort, in spite of your thoughts. âlike a couple of teenagers?â
his eyes crinkle on the sides when he grins. âyeah. weâll just see how we feel about that, and if it leads to more, thenâŚâ he trails off, shrugging.
âthatâs not a bad idea,â you concede.
âgreat! finish your wine.â
you laugh and do as youâre told, downing the little remaining wine in one go, sitting the glass down on the counter resolutely as you swallow.
âletâs do this,â you say, determined.
bucky huffs a laugh, grabbing your wrist and tugging you behind him as he makes his way to the couch. he settles slightly facing you as you tuck your legs under you beside him.
âdo you wanna talk, or do you want to jump straight into it?â
âif we talk anymore iâm gonna change my mind. just kiss me already, bucky.â
âyes maâam,â he sasses before doing exactly that.
he cups your cheek with one hand as the other is placed on your knee. he guides your face to his and kisses you chastely. youâre not sure where to put your hands at first, but you tell yourself to quit being a goober about it and place them on either side of his neck, your thumbs brushing under his jaw.
itâs an okay kiss, you have to admit, but itâs not really doing anything for you yet. he has soft lips, softer than you thought theyâd be. youâre beginning to wonder if maybe this confirms you shouldnât go any further when he tilts his head, and⌠hm.
he parts his lips, taking your bottom one between his, kissing it, then nipping it. you wouldnât say the sound you make is a gasp, necessarily, but itâs close. his tongue lightly caresses the seam of your mouth and you donât even think before you open up for him, letting his tongue sweep in, flicking against yours. you hum, scooting a tiny bit closer to him, chasing the feeling. his kisses turn insistent then, teeth biting at your bottom lip and tugging, soothing the ache with his tongue. he kisses you like a man quenching his thirst, like youâre the best goddamn thing heâs ever tasted, and itâs leaving you dizzy. you sway more into his space and he pulls away from your mouth.
âcâmere,â he whispers, gripping behind one of your knees to drag it over his hips so youâre straddling him. âmuch better.â
you donât have a chance to process anything about the moment, his mouth back on yours in a blink. your fingers wind themselves into his hair, getting a good grip on it as you lick into his mouth. he lets out a soft noise at that and you try your damnedest to pry it out of him again, pressing your chest to his so thereâs not even a sliver of space left between you.
his hands travel, down the sides of your torso to your thighs, back up to your hips where he holds on tight. it doesnât take long after that before you find yourself grinding into him. you both moan at the same time, breaking the kiss to pant for breath.
you swallow roughly. âokay,â you murmur, âi think itâs safe to say this could work.â
bucky laughs quietly. âyeah? wanna move to your bed then?â
your squeeze your thighs around him, shifting minutely on his lap and feeling the beginnings of his erection beneath you. âyes,â you breathe.
quickly, you rise from your position and step back, allowing bucky to stand, then grab his hand and lead him to your bedroom. once youâre standing beside your bed, you turn to face him. he meets your halfway, pulling you into another, filthier kiss. you reach for his belt buckle, unfastening it and sliding it through the loops, tossing it to your floor. next are the button and zip of his jeans, shoved down his legs until he steps out of them and kicks them and his socks aside. he obediently lifts his arms when you slide your hands under his shirt and begin pushing it up, breaking the kiss to nearly yank it off, making bucky huff in amusement. once itâs tossed with the rest of his clothes, bucky grabs fistfuls of your dress and pulls you into him.
âmy turn,â he says against your lips.
carefully, bucky helps you out of your dress, eyes raking over every bit of new skin shown to him. he bites his lip when he sees your lacy underthings.
âyou got all dolled up for me?â he asks.
shifting under his stare, you nod. âwanted to look nice,â you admit.
he hums. âbeautiful.â
he kisses you again, a little softer than before, but no less passionate. the urgency returns as he backs you up until your thighs hit the mattress. gently, he guides you onto your back, never breaking the kiss as he follows you down and settles over you.
you soon find yourself in need of air and pull away with a gasp. bucky is undeterred and instead presses his kisses down your jaw, to your neck where he decides to bite and suck until heâs left a mark youâll have to reprimand him for later. he licks his way up to your ear, sucking the lobe into his mouth, drawing a whine out of you.
âbucky,â you whisper, hands gripping his sides as you squirm below him.
âhm?â
you close your eyes tightly when he makes his way back down to your collarbones.
âplease,â you whimper.
âplease what, sweetheart?â he asks, pushing himself up to look you in the eye.
ât-touch me,â you beg, cheeks flushing.
his lips quirk into a smile. âi am touching you.â
âbucky,â you whine.
âwhere do you want me to touch you, hm?â he wonders. one of his hands trails across your shoulder and down the center of your chest. âhere? or⌠here?â
when his fingers glide, barely there, over your pebbled nipples, you push into the touch eagerly.
âorâŚâ he continues, his feather light touch making a path down your stomach. your breath quickens in anticipation. âhere?â he murmurs as his fingertips stop on your pantyline.
âyes, there, anywhere,â you agree hastily, âjust âplease. please, bucky, donât tease me.â
he kisses you again, deep, full of promise. âyou beg so prettily for me.â
he rearranges your positions until heâs between your spread thighs, sweeping his hands across the inside of them. he nods to your panties.
âmay i?â
âyes, please,â you reply, lifting your hips to help him take them off.
he doesnât give you a chance to close your legs in shyness, firmly grasping your knees in each of his hands and spreading them once again. the way heâs looking at you makes you feel unbelievably desirable, has excitement crawling up your spine.
âdonât forget,â you remind him, making his eyes flick up to yours in question, âyou better make me cry.â
a slow, dangerous smile graces his lips. your stomach swoops eagerly.
~
a whine, high pitched and drawn out, escapes your lips. after you unwittingly challenged him, bucky took it upon himself to torture youâwith sex. so far, heâs only used his fingers on you, in you, thrusting them steadily but never enough to bring you to climax. heâs taking his time and being a smug prick about it. you go to complain, again, hoping if you beg enough heâll let you come, but before you can do more than open your mouth heâs quickening his pace.
âoh!â you gasp, clutching the sheets in your hands.
bucky slides his hand down your thigh, bringing his thumb inward to swipe around where his other fingers are buried inside you to gather your wetness and using it to rub circles on your clit. your back arches, head thrown back against your pillows as you feel your orgasm build. itâs not tears, but damn, it feels good enough.
just as you start to clench around his fingers, legs spasming, he stops.
your eyes open in a hurry, brows furrowing in confusion. âno, please, donât stop,â you plead.
bucky smiles. âi gotta get the right build up.â
you groan in frustration. he laughs quietly and lets the inferno burning within you simmer down to embers, then starts inching his way down until heâs lying on his stomach, mouth poised above your pussy. the feel of his warm breath makes you shiver, and with no warning whatsoever, he leans in and sucks your clit into his mouth.
âfuckinââoh myâ bucky!â
youâre pretty sure you black out for the next several minutes, the only thing youâre aware of is the thudding of your heartbeat in your ears and the feel of buckyâs mouth on you. youâre lost in a mindless haze of pleasure, unable to think or feel anything else. you feel your orgasm cresting for the second time, and just as before, bucky pulls away before you can succumb to it.
âwhy,â you hiccup on a moan, wanting nothing more than to just come already, but heâs not letting you.
he shushes you, softly kisses your knee. sitting up to take his underwear off, bucky keeps his eyes on you, expression hungry.
âgonna take care of you, sweetheart,â he promises. âjust a bit more. youâre being so good for me, yeah?â
âplease,â you whimper, feeling completely pathetic.
he makes quick work of putting a condom on and then settles between your thighs. you sigh in relief when he wastes no time and pushes in, being careful not to go too fast. once heâs fully inside you, he pauses, wanting to give you time to adjust, but youâre back to whining.
âbucky, please, please justâfuck me,â you beg, squirming beneath him.
he takes mercy on you, finally, and sets a hard pace. your hands fly up to push against the headboard, moaning and gasping from his harsh thrusts, loving the stretch of him inside you. his thumb is back on your clit and you cry out, clenching hard around him, but his thrusts donât falter. all too soon, you can feel yourself getting close. you hear your own voice chanting please, please, please, mixed in with buckyâs grunts and the sound of him fucking you.
you whimper, eyes squeezed shut as your climax hits the point of no return, crashing over you in waves. you think you might scream, but itâs hard to pay attention to anything other than the overwhelming pleasure coursing through you. part of you thinks thisâll be it, bucky will come now and then youâll have had one of the best orgasms of your life and heâll be on his merry way home. but no, thatâs not what happens.
instead, bucky keeps thrusting relentlessly into you, dragging out your pleasure to the point of oversensitivity.
âsâtoo much,â you breathe, gasping for air.
bucky shakes his head, face contorted in concentration. âone more,â he tells you, voice gruff and deep.
unbelievably, you feel tears beginning to gather in the corners of your eyes. buckyâs still rubbing your clit, still keeping a steady rhythm of his hips, and fuck, heâs so beautiful. you watch him fucking you, wondering how the fuck you got to this moment, how you got lucky enough to bear witness to the sight of bucky fucking, let alone be the one he fucks. his body is ridiculous, looking like itâs carved from marble. you know how much strength it holds, as well, know that if he really wanted to, he could probably fuck you against a wall.
itâs with that thought, with the added bonus of the way bucky touches you, looks at you, like youâre something treasured and gorgeous, giving you such intense pleasure, that the tears threatening to spill over finally fall from your lashes.
bucky notices, because of course he does, and he thrusts into you just a little faster, a little harder, and your body seizes up and then youâre falling into another orgasm. it spreads through your veins, slow like honey, making sure this one settles deep into your bones. bucky groans as he, too, reaches climax, hips twitching into you in aftershocks until he stops moving altogether.
you both pant for breath, sweat gathered in every crevice on your bodies. you think you wonât be able to move for the rest of the weekend.
âneed to pull out,â bucky says softly, breaking the moment.
you nod and he carefully pulls his hips back, grunting. you poorly suppress a whimper and close your legs, already hating the empty feeling.
âwell,â he starts, plopping himself on his back next to you, âi think i deserve some kind of reward.â
when you turn to face him with an exasperated look, heâs got his arms crossed behind his head, a smug smile across his lips.
âhow about i donât kick you in the balls? howâs that for a reward?â
âi literally just did the impossible.â
âwhat, made me come twice? i can do that all on my own. youâre not special,â you retort with a huff.
he scoffs. âi fucked you so good you cried.â
âyou canât prove it,â you say to the ceiling.
âkeep up this attitude and i wonât do it again,â he threatens, poking you in your side.
you wiggle away from the ticklish touch while trying to tamp down on the hope bubbling in your chest.
âoh, weâre doing this again, are we?â you say as casually as possible.
he rolls his eyes. âof course we are. now,â he sits up in your bed, stretching his arms as he stands and picks up his underwear, âiâm starving. wanna order takeout?â
well, you guess if youâd been worried about any kind of awkwardness before, you shouldnât have. this is bucky, your best friend. heâd never let things change between you.
***
except, things kinda change between the two of you.
itâs not very noticeable at first, changes so subtle you miss them, until one day he showed up at your apartment and greeted you with a kiss. you stood frozen in your doorway as he rambled about how stressful his day had been as he kicked his shoes off. it was only when you heard him calling out from the kitchen that he was gonna eat your leftovers that you snapped out of it, yelling back that youâd kick his ass if he even touched your dumplings.
another day, he facetimes you and asks if you want to go to see that new movie youâve been talking about.
âoh,â youâd said. âare nat and sam coming, too?â
heâd given you a funny look, replied, âno, i thought it would just be us two.â
âoh,â you said again. âokay.â
so youâd gone to the movies, let him buy you buttery popcorn and peanut m&mâs and a soda bigger than your head. he shared with you, despite your protests, and halfway through the film you felt his hand settle on your thigh. you blinked and stared at it for a beat, turning to him in question. he only smiled at you briefly before focusing back on the movie.
in between all of this, you continued calling him over for sex. honestly, how could you not? as much as you didnât want to admit it to him, he was the best youâve ever had. and if heâs so willing, why shouldnât you take advantage while you can?
a week ago, though, youâd texted him and asked him to come over, replying to his question of what time and then started getting ready. youâd purchased a new piece of lingerie, a periwinkle babydoll nightie, that left very little to the imagination. it had a matching pair of panties and felt soft and luxurious on your skin. youâd taken extra time to do your hair and makeup, wanting to look like sex on legs, and youâre pretty sure you succeeded.
but when he got there and you answered the door in your sexy outfit, he didnât see it right away. in one hand he held his phone, typing something on it, and in the other hand he held a grocery bag that you eyed curiously.
âi brought stuff to make spaghettiââ
when he did finally look up, his eyes widened and traveled the length of your body several times. you bit your lip, trying and failing to hold back your smile.
âhow about we skip dinner?â youâd said, fisting his nice button-up shirt and dragging him inside your apartment. you grabbed the grocery bag from his hand and sat it on the floor, absently noting he was wearing his date jeans.
whoops, youâd thought, hope i didnât pull him away from someone important.
you hadnât let yourself dwell on it, standing up on your tippy toes and kissing him, wrapping your arms around his shoulders. heâd returned the kiss, licking into your mouth, drawing your tongue out so he could suck on it and made you moan embarrassingly loud.
âwait,â heâd murmured, âwe should eat first.â
âor, you could eat me,â youâd retorted with a giggle.
he groaned like it pained him to say no, gripped your hips hard and put a tiny bit of distance between you. the look in his eyes had made you want to find the nearest flat surface and bend over.
âwhy donât you be a good girl for me, hm? let me cook dinner for us and after we eat iâll fuck you however you want me to. okay, sweetheart?â
you whined, but ultimately agreed, knowing heâd make it worth it.
and then thereâs tonight, where he came over unannounced, armed with groceries again and promising to cook you the best meal youâve ever had. to say you were confused would be an understatement, but you also didnât want to look a gift horse in the mouth.
itâs just⌠well, buckyâs not really acting like a friend with benefits. sure, you hung out alone with him all the time before, but he never once cooked you dinner, and he certainly never helped wash dishes after. you guess the hello kisses could be explained away as part of the new aspect of your relationship, but something about that didnât sit quite right with you.
after a truly delicious dinner, you find yourself on the couch with bucky as he scrolls through netflix to find a movie to put on.
âwhat do you want to watch?â he asks.
âmm,â you mumble, shifting closer to start kissing his neck, âdonât care.â
as he narrows down his decision and finally picks one, you make your way up to his jaw, sucking a small mark into the skin there.
âbaby,â he protests softly, âletâs just watch the movie, yeah?â
you pull back, confused. first at the pet name, then at his words. heâs never denied you before, which isnât to say that he canât, itâs just that heâs always seemed on board. and, you know, you thought that was kind of the whole point of this thing.
âokay,â you reply after a moment.
he gives you a smile and a sweet kiss, wrapping an arm around you and pulling you into his side to cuddle. you canât help but frown, feeling like youâre missing something, but not knowing what it could be.
it doesnât take long for drowsiness to creep up on you. before he showed up, you had planned on probably ordering out for dinner and going to bed early since youâd had a pretty rough day. in fact, you remember texting bucky about it just that afternoon. your eyelids get heavier and heavier, finding it harder to keep them open as the seconds pass. your head droops and in the next blink, youâve fallen asleep.
youâre not sure how much time has passed when bucky wakes you, but you groan, pouting and burrowing into his shoulder more.
he huffs a laugh. âcâmon, sweetheart, letâs get you to bed.â
âdonâ wanna move,â you mumble tiredly.
âiâll carry you,â he offers. âup you go, baby.â
you half heartedly argue about being jostled, but let him carry you to your bed where he carefully places you, helping you out of your sweatpants and pulling your blankets up around you. you sigh in content, feeling yourself already drifting back into sleep. you hear bucky shuffling, but think nothing of it until the bed dips beside you, then feel his warm body slide in underneath the covers and press in close.
âgoodnight, darlinâ,â he murmurs.
youâd ask him what in the word heâs doing, but sleep is just far too enticing to ignore. you fall into slumber with buckyâs warmth along your back, his arm draped over you.
the next morning, you wake to the feeling of his fingers playing with the tiny bow on the front of your panties and his lips placing gentle kisses on your shoulder. you hum, eyes still closed, in the back of your mind thinking this is a nice way to wake up. at the sound of you, his touches get firmer, more insistent.
âgood morning,â he rasps, breath tickling your ear.
you donât really get a chance to reply. he dips his fingers into your panties, making you inhale sharply, moaning as you buck into his hand. he fingers you for a while, kissing along the column of your throat, biting and sucking marks into the skin there. when youâre begging him for more, he relents, eases your panties off and lifts your leg to slide in from behind. the angle is so nice it has you gasping.
you clutch the sheets weakly, burying your face in your pillow and muffle your whines and moans. bucky keeps a slow, lazy rhythm, acting as if heâs got all the time in the world to draw this out. itâs good, so good, and you canât hold back your whimper when he kicks up the pace a little, tells you to touch yourself. you come seconds before he does, shuddering through it and humming happily.
as you both lie there and catch your breath, awareness trickles into your mind. you swallow roughly, staring blankly at the wall as you realize your feelings have grown far too much for this to be only casual anymore.
bucky kisses your shoulder again. âiâm gonna go make breakfast, okay? iâll call you when itâs ready.â
âokay,â you whisper, blinking rapidly to keep tears from forming.
hearing bucky bustle around your kitchen makes your heart clench with want; want for something you canât have.
***
bucky: dinner tonight?
you bite the inside of your cheek as you stare at the text. you know you need to cut things off with him before you get anymore hurt than you already are. itâs not fair to either of you if you continue with this arrangement when youâve caught real feelings for him. you have to tell him, and soon. with that thought in mind, you type out a reply.
you: sure. what time?
bucky: reservations are at 8pm, iâll pick you up by 7:45.
reservations? where was he taking you? you get another text before you can ask.
bucky: dress nice ;)
with a sigh, you text back an affirmative and try to start mentally preparing yourself for the conversation you dreaded having. you could only hope and pray that he agrees to still be your friend after.
by the time thereâs a knock on your door that night, youâve worked yourself up into an anxious mess. you open the door to see bucky standing there with a single peach colored rose and a bashful grin.
âhi,â he greets, leaning in to kiss you on your cheek. âthis is for you.â
he hands you the rose and you feel your heart crack in your chest. you muster a small smile.
âthank you. let me go put this in a vase and we can head out.â
he nods and waits patiently at the door. as you fill a vase with a little water, you take a deep breath, giving yourself a mental pep talk.
this was going to suck.
the drive to the restaurant doesnât take too long, and when you see where heâs taken you, your eyebrows shoot up. this is one of the nicer places in the city, definitely not on the affordable side. he helps you out of the car, leading you inside with his hand on the small of your back. youâre led to a small booth in a far corner with overhead lighting that feels too intimate. maybe youâd have to wait until you left to tell himâŚ
conversation is light, a bit surface level, and you get the feeling that bucky is a little nervous. you wonder if maybe heâs gonna let you down gently first, hoping that he doesnât, because youâd rather not cry in such a fancy restaurant.
after the waiter takes your drink orders, bucky sighs.
âokay, let me just⌠get this off my chest.â
oh fuck, here it goes.
âi know iâve never really come across at the most romantic guy, especially since iâve never felt the need to be.â he runs a nervous hand through his hair. âyouâve always been so important to me, and this last month has been so, so wonderful.â
âbuckyâŚâ you trail off, attempting to somehow stop him, but he powers through.
âi justâi never thought iâd find somebody, you know?â he says, earnest, gaze locked on yours. another crack in your heart. âespecially not somebody who was my friend first, that i already had a solid foundation with. the attraction had always been there, but the friendship meant more to me, and finally allowing that to blossom into this amazing, new, fun relationship has got to be the best decision iâve ever made.â
did he start dating someone and not tell you? oh god, has he been sleeping with someone else? at the same time? your stomach turns, eyes burning, hating yourself more and more as he speaks.
âso, i guess what iâm trying to say is,â he says, rolling his eyes at himself and smiling, âhappy one month anniversary, sweetheart.â
you blink, feeling a tear slip down your cheek. âwhat?â you croak, beyond confused.
bucky, however, looks concerned. âbaby, why are you crying?â
âiâŚâ you blink some more, eyes flitting around the room as if youâll get some kind of clarity that way to the situation currently happening. âwhat?â you repeat.
âdid i come on too strong?â he asks, looking embarrassed now. âi wasnât sure if youâd even want to celebrate, but iâve just been so happy with youâiâm sorry, baby, i shouldâve asked.â
âbucky, what are you talking about?â you finally manage, unable to keep the bewilderment out of your tone. âanniversary?â
bucky frowns. âi didnât get the date wrong, did i?â
âno, iâthis isnâtâiâm not talking aboutâugh, i mean, when did we even start having an anniversary to celebrate?â
buckyâs face goes blank, sitting back in his chair. your heart is pounding wildly in your chest, so fucking confused, so fucking hopeful.
âwe⌠weâre dating,â he says, slow, unsure. âarenât we?â
âsince when?â you ask probably too loudly, cheeks flushing.
he opens and closes his mouth a couple times. âwhen i asked you out?â
âbucky, oh my god, youâre gonna have to be more specific before i lose my goddamn mind. when did you ask me out?â
he huffs, his own cheeks flushing. âat the cafe! a month ago, at brunch with natasha and sam.â
your eyes widen in disbelief. âwhen you asked if you could fuck me until i cried?â you hiss, ignoring the scandalized look on the waiterâs face as he brings your drinks over.
smiling apologetically, you thank him and wait until heâs gone before sending a glare buckyâs way.
âthatâs not how you ask a person out,â you seethe.
âi asked if you wanted to give this a try and you said yes!â he replies desperately. âiâve taken you on dates!â
you pinch the bridge of your nose, thinking of all the times you thought he was being too romantic, more-than-friends type of behavior. youâre a fucking idiot, but god, so was he.
âat no point did you say anything even remotely close about us starting a relationship. i thought we were just fucking, bucky, i didnât realize it was more than that!â
âyou donâtââ he starts, then stops, looking down at the plate in front of him. âyou donât want to be with me?â
âi didnât know it was an option,â you say carefully.
âwell, it is.â he meets your gaze, cautious. âi just spilled my guts to you. you know how i feel now. how do you feel? about me?â
you lick your lips. âbucky, i⌠i was planning to end things with you tonight.â his expression drops, even though he tries to mask it, so youâre quick to explain. ânot because i donât like you, but because i do like you and i thought you wouldnât want anything more than just sex with me.â
âitâs never been and never could have been just sex with you,â he replies, quiet and relieved. he reaches across the table to take your hand in his. âi meant it when i said youâre the best decision iâve ever made. i want thisâthe sex, the dinners, dates, all the gross and sappy shit i never wanted before⌠i want it all with you, if youâll have me.â
you canât fight the smile spreading across your lips. âof course iâll have you, bucky.â
he smiles in return, a laugh bubbling out of him, which makes you giggle, until youâre both laughing so hard and loud that patrons from other tables are sending dirty looks your way, which only makes you laugh more.
âdo you wanna get out of here?â you ask, laughter dying down. âthereâs pizza and sex calling our names, i think.â
bucky moans dramatically. âi knew i liked you for a reason.â
he leaves money on the table and then the two of you quickly make your way through the restaurant, giggling and holding hands the whole way, even in the car.

bucky barnes x fem!reader
summary: everyone thinks you're dating bucky, except yourself.
word count: 2.4k
warnings: 18+ minors dni. miscommunication (i love this trope, sue me), angst with a happy fluffy ending, quite stubborn reader, implied smut if you squint, usage of petnames such as baby and doll. lowercase for basically everything.
i haven't finished anything in decades, but i suddenly had an idea just now and decided to write it down. surprisingly, i finished it? might have a lot of mistakes and such since i haven't proofread it yet. also, sorry for using lowercase for this, i kinda like how it looks. hope you enjoy this one!

âyou're confusing me. so... you're not dating bucky?â
wanda tilted her head, confusion etched on her face as you spent your weekly girl's night with natasha. it usually consisted of eating food you all desired, drinking until you got wasted, and spilling secrets to one another.
although tonight, you weren't sure if you had any secrets to spill.
"as far as i know, no. we're just friends, teammates. nothing else," you answered with a heavy sigh. "can we talk about something else?"
"hold your horses, young lady! we are not skipping this topic again. you obviously want a label but he isn't giving you one!" wanda protested. she has been constantly asking about you and bucky's relationship for the past weeks, and you always had the same answer. you don't know.
"have you never talked about it with bucky? he looks at you like you'd get lost if he looks away for a second. not a single soul in the tower would think that you're just friends," natasha interjected, taking another sip from the bottle of beer she held. she had a point, as always. "if he's just playing with you, which i highly doubt for barnes, then just end whatever that is. you deserve better than having doubts and confusion, babe."
you've tried asking him multiple times, but every attempt felt like you were stepping on his boundaries. after years of being controlled by hydra, you knew it was possible that he'd hate the feeling of being rushed and entering a relationship that could potentially feel like a cage to him.
but natasha was right. your "relationship" was no longer anything friendly. he sleeps in your bed, claiming he slept better in it, and wakes up beside you to shower you with kisses. none of you even tried to hide it after some time. you always cooked your meals and ate them together, casually feeding one another and stealing kisses in between. you even stopped going on dates and you had no idea if you were exclusive. you deserved to know what your relationship with bucky was, but you were too scared to lose everything once you asked.
"we're not dating. i only see him as a friend, so you can both stop worrying about me." you lied through your teeth, your chest aching as you realised how stupid this was. you sighed and faked a smile, shifting the attention to natasha. "so, tell me about your date with steve! how was the first ever date of captain america since the 40s?"
wanda was distracted by the question, immediately bombarding the now blushing widow with questions. on the other hand, your mind flew away for a minute, finally deciding to get an answer from bucky.
the annual ball that tony stark held for, well, nearly anyone, was nearing. you only had two weeks left, and you haven't even gone out to find something to wear. it was hard to find any motivation to do all that effort when the person you've been waiting to ask you as his date hasn't asked you yet.
although, bucky had a tendency to get shy and hold back. you knew that. so here you were, standing behind the doors to the gym, knowing that bucky would be training at this hour. you still haven't asked him the question you were supposed to ask him, so you decided to do it all at once.
after you've finished your small pep talk, you opened the door to enter the room and your first instinct was to search for bucky.
considering that he was a huge chunk of a man, he was easy to find. however, the sight of him standing in front of a woman that was too close for your comfort wasn't delightful.
he didn't see you entering the room since he was facing the opposite direction, conversing with the agent that happened to be training as well. she had the sweetest and flirtiest smile on her face, bringing her hand up to his arm, slowly caressing it. you didn't mean to easily hear their conversation as you walked closer.
"so, do you happen to have someone for me to have as a date for the ball? i don't want to be lonely on that night, sergeant," the agent said with an extra pout, swaying her hips side to side like a child asking for candy.
"oh, yeah? i think i have someone for you," bucky replied, breaking your heart into pieces with how enthusiastic he was with his answer. "i'm sure you'llâ"
you sniffed. unconsciously. not knowing that your tears were already falling, causing your nose to get stuffy. how pathetic, you thought.
your little sniff caught the attention of both the agent and bucky, looking at you in shock. although, the girl was more pleasantly surprised than the opposite. thankfully, you already had your tears wiped before they could see them.
"oh, we didn't see you there!" she greeted you with your name. "we were just talking about our date for this year's ball. who are you bringing?"
"i haven't decided yet, no one's worth it even if i try," you answered bitterly. "so you're going together?"
before bucky could answer, the agent already had her arm wrapped around his, happily smiling at your question. "yeah! amazing, right? i actually thought you two had a thing, but i guess not. glad things worked out in the end."
and that was your last straw. "well, enjoy yourselves. i have to go and find natasha."
you turned to leave, ignoring the loud calls of bucky. you were glad that you never asked him about your relationship and the ball. you were going to be hurt either way.
you spent the next hours stuck in your room, body covered with a thick sheet as you ranted about your frustrations to friday.
it was silly, you knew that, but you refused to call natasha and wanda to remind you of your stupidity and decided to let an ai robot listen to your problems instead.
"and he even flirted back! answering coyly like a teenager. he's 107 years old, fri!" you whined, not noticing the new nickname you've given the alternative intelligence. "ugh, now i have a broken heart and no date in sight. how did it get to this?"
"perhaps you must discuss this matter with sergeant barnes first. your conversation ended quite abruptly with no clear conclusion."
"no, i don't want the truth rubbed on my face," you said, grabbing another piece of tissue to sneeze in. "you restricted him from entering my room, right?"
friday answered with a yes, then you thanked her for listening and decided to get some sleep after tirelessly crying for hours. you knew you had a team meeting with the avengers in a bit, but you couldn't bring yourself to even walk a few steps.
your sleep ended and you were woken up with friday's reminder that it was time for dinner with the team.
with a groan, you pushed yourself off your bed. bucky would be there, but you were too hungry to care. it would be awkward, of course, but you had to face him at some point anyway.
your feet padded towards the door, opening it after trying your hair in a bun.
"ah, fuck."
you jumped at the voice and the body falling to the floor as you opened the door.
"bucky?" you asked, still in shock. "were you sleeping outside of my room?"
you watched bucky stand up, his hand massaging his aching nape as he looked for your eyes. "friday won't let me in. i waited outside instead. i guess i fell asleep during that," he explained, a frown forming on his face. "did you restrict me from entering our room?"
your eyes widened at his choice of words. our room. he considered your room to be his room as well. while that would've made you melt in an instant, you were still hurt to entertain that possibility.
"this is my room, barnes. not yours, not ours. and yes, i had you restricted because i couldn't face you yet. what do you need anyway?"
"i wanted to see you, talk to you." a flash of pain crossed his eyes. "whatever happened at the gym, it'sâ"
"bucky, you don't have to explain anything to me. we're just friends. it's my fault i assumed we were something. i just need some time to get over it."
"but i thought we were something as well..." he replied, his voice was almost as quiet as a whisper. "i thought we were dating."
"were we?" you asked, genuinely curious. "we never.. you never said anything. i mean, yeah, i wished it meant something, but i thought you wouldn't want to be trapped in a relationship with me, so i just waited. apparently, i was right and i can't blame you for that."
"right about what? the thing that happened in the gym this morning?" he asked. you nodded in response. "i know it sounds like i was flirting back, well i didn't know at the moment, until i asked steve who was clueless but he called nat to help me out and explained that it looked like i was flirting back. i wasn't. i was just going to suggest sam as a date for her. i would never agree to anyone."
oh. so he just wasn't interested in anyone at all.
"besides this one girl who's constantly been in my head. that's if she'd even give me a chance and say yes. i fucked it up badly before i could even ask her properly."
you knew what hoping got you, but you couldn't help but think that he was talking about you. he'd have to be clueless to say all those things in front of you only for it to be someone else.
"i love you, baby. i should've told you that, i should've made it clear sooner. i'm so sorry i let you have doubts when i could've been reassuring you about what i feel for you."
"bucky..."
"i would never feel trapped with you, doll. only you made me feel so much love and freedom. i'd be a fool to let go of that. i'm sorry it took a few hits and harsh words from natasha to make me realise that i wasn't giving you enough when you deserve everything." he held your face in his hands, bringing you closer to him. you felt breathless, tears threatening to fall but this time it was out of joy. "hydra made sure i had no voice to express myself. now, i'll use it to let you know that i love you so fucking much that it hurts when you're not around. i promise to work on it. if anything like this happens again, ask me, baby. demand things from me. i'll give you everything in a heartbeat."
"even if i ask for your arm?"
he laughed, a sound that was music to your ears. "it's yours baby. although, i do like fucking you with my metalâ"
"bucky!" you scolded him, hitting him lightly on the chest.
"sorry, baby. couldn't help it. missed my girl so much."
his girl. you loved hearing that.
"it's only been a few hours. don't be silly," you reminded him, but you knew you also felt the same.
"i miss you even when i don't see you for a second." you couldn't help but laugh at his words. "something funny, doll?"
"sorry, natasha said something similar about you a few days ago," you answered. "i'm sorry for assuming so quickly, bucky. you deserved the chance to explain."
"and you did let me explain. i can't blame you for assuming and getting hurt when i never gave you the confirmation to believe otherwise. don't apologise for it, baby."
"i love you," you said, causing him to grin widely.
"yeah? you love me too?" he asked, a hint of pink tinting his cheeks. "this is official now, right? we're dating?"
you nodded happily, giggling as he landed a kiss to your mouth. "so, you wanna go to the ball with me?"
he kissed you again. "don't. i'm supposed to be asking you that. i had an entire thing prepared for you, i even dragged half of the team to help me out days ago. besides wanda and natasha, of course. couldn't let them tell you about it."
your heart swelled, he was already planning to ask you before all of this misunderstanding happened, and it could've been solved with communication. lesson learned, indeed.
"well hurry because i can't wait to say yes," you playfully threatened him, kissing the tip of his nose until the loud rumble of your stomach interrupted your sweet moment. "ah, right. i was on my way to eat dinner when i opened the door."
bucky laughed, his eyes twinkling witth adoration as he kept his eyes on you. "we can't have you starving, that's for sure. come, let's get you something." he held your hand, and dragged you to the kitchen. he turned to look at you with a playful smile. "wanna cook together like the old times?"
you smiled. "like the old times."
in the middle of your cooking session, you heard whistles and claps along with the footsteps that entered the kitchen. you both turned to find the rest of the team with shit eating grins.
"finally! so is this real or do we need to smack your heads?" tony asked, his hand placed on his hip.
"it's always been real, stark," bucky answered, wrapping his arm around your waist. "except this time, i'm making sure my entire world knows it."
"i think everybody knows you have a thing for each other, barnes." clint added.
"i meant my entire world, not everybody." bucky looked at you with awe. "she's my world."
bucky's answer gained various loud reactions from the team, mostly calling him a cheesy old man and fake gags, but there you were, cheeks heating up as you looked back at him with the same amount of love, if not more.
and he did ask you to be his date to the ball the day after, surprising you with his so-called secret plan.
a year later, he surprised you with a ring as he knelt on one knee.
if you have any requests for bucky, send them my way! đ

One More Night

Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Female Reader
Warnings: +18, friends with benefits, idiots in love, unspoken feelings, miscommunication/misunderstandings, angst with happy ending, unprotected sex, pet names, no mention of y/n
Word Count: 3.4K
All work is mine, please do not repost or translate without my permission.
It is one of those days when you feel absolutely worthless. It wasnât something you felt often before but nowâŚ. It is starting to feel like your new normal. You know itâs your fault, and it just makes you feel even worse. You let this happen when you let Bucky Barnes walk into your life without any consequences. Now he just has a free pass to destroy you anytime he wants.Â
It was supposed to be just fun. Something casual because you know he has no intention of settling down. Especially not with you. Not that he said any of those words but he doesnât need to. You just know it.Â
Heâs one of the popular guys in your college. Itâs not surprising considering how handsome and charming he is. Heâs also talented and hard-working. He takes school seriously unlike a lot of people around you. So when it comes to his free time, he just wants to have some fun, no strings attached and you were fine with this arrangement. You wanted to be close to him and this is the price: Your heart breaks every time.Â
You donât blame him but you definitely blame yourself because you put yourself in this position. If you werenât so pathetic, you could simply say no and this regularly hooking-up arrangement of yours would have ended. Yet you never said no and he never stopped coming back to you. Probably because itâs convenient, you canât come up with any other reason. Like who says no to an easy fuck, right? That is what you are. An easy fuck. Still, itâs breaking your heart every time he leaves your bed. You say to yourself âThis is gonna be the last timeâ but when the next text or call comes, you fold once again.Â
Thatâs how you ended up here. Your face is buried in the pillow while Bucky is pounding you from behind. It feels good. Actually, it feels pretty amazing. It always does but this time your emotions are overshadowing the physical pleasure. Tears are streaming down your face and you are grateful that he canât see it thanks to this position. Then a sob escapes your mouth and you feel betrayed by your own body.
âDoes it feel that good, doll?â He sounds smug but you canât answer him. Not while trying to hold the rest of your sobs back. That seems to worry him. He suddenly stops and when he takes a closer look sees that your eyes are filled with tears.
âHey, hey, hey! Are you alright?â He sounds genuinely worried. You try to say something but instead, more sobs come out. âWhat happened? Did I hurt you?â
He didnât physically hurt you, yet you are hurt. You donât know how to explain this to him. You feel embarrassed and angry at the same time. You pride yourself on how good you are at hiding your emotions. You donât want anyone to see you cry. You donât want anyoneâs pity. Yet here you are. Eyes filled with tears, sobs escaping your lips and your heart is shattered.
âPlease talk to me!â His desperate tone snaps you out of your thoughts. You try to turn on your back and quickly dry your tears.Â
âItâs fine. Sorry for killing the mood. I justâŚâ You hesitate for a second but no, you wonât back down this time. âI just canât do this anymore.â
âThatâs fine.â That wasnât the response you were expecting. âYou know itâs okay right?â His worry is so apparent in his voice. âYou can always tell me to stop.â What is he talking about? âIf you donât like something or you donât feel like it anymore⌠Just tell me next time and I will just stop.â
âThereâs no next time Bucky.â The words come out of your mouth before you can process them. You didnât intend to be so harsh but it came out so definite.
âWhat?â
âIâm telling you that I canât do thisâŚâ You wave your hand between you two. â...anymore. Iâm done. We are done.âÂ
âWhatâŚâ He sounds shocked and hurt at the same time. You try to avoid looking at his eyes while he struggles to find the right words. âWhat are you talking about? Did I do something?â
âYou didnât do anything. Itâs all my fault.â You have no intention to blame him. You know itâs on you. He never promised you anything.
âI donât understand.â He sounds so lost. âJust help me understand what happened, okay? I thought everything was okay.â
âThey were, for you. It was never okay for me.âÂ
You watch how his expression changes into something that breaks your heart even more. You never thought he would care this much but⌠apparently, he does. Maybe heâs not used to being rejected. Especially in the middle of sex.
âI⌠I donât know what to say.â He looks at your face and then around. âI thought this is what you wanted.â
âWhat I wanted?â You repeat his words without missing a beat. âI never wanted this. This is what you wanted and thatâs why we kept doing it. I was justâŚâ You hesitate for a second because you hate to admit it. âweak.â
âWeak? You are never weak.â
âOh, I am weak. This is why I kept saying âone more nightâ to myself whenever you called or texted me. Iâm weak as fuck and it makes me angry, okay? I shouldnât be like this.â
âDoll, what are you talking about?â
His confusion confuses you as well. Canât he see how much heâs hurting you? Is he really that blind or maybe he just doesnât care.
âThis arrangement might be working for you but itâs not working for me, okay?â
âBut⌠this is what you wanted.â
âI never wanted this.â
âYou said we canât get emotions involved!â He sounds somewhat angry this time.
âBecause you didnât want emotions involved!â Your answer comes instantly.
âWhen did I ever say that?â
His question makes you stop for a second. He never said that but did he really have to? You know how popular he is. Everybody loves him. He has the prettiest face you have ever seen. You desperately wanted to be with him. You didnât care how.
âJust look at you.â
âWhat does that even mean?â Is he doing this on purpose? He surely knows everybody wants him. Why does he have to hear it from you?
âIt means you didnât have to say it.â
âHow does⌠I really donât understand you.â His confusion is written all over his face. The way he hesitates makes you realize you have to say it out loud to make him understand.
âYou are handsome. You are talented. Everybody loves you.â He keeps looking at you with confusion. He really doesnât get it, does he? âYou can have anybody you want!â
âApparently not.â Why does he sound broken?
âOh, come on!â Your reaction is instant. âYou know you can. Donât act humble. Iâm just easier.â
âEasier?â You donât miss the disbelief in his voice. âEasier?â This time it comes out more angry. âYou were never easy!â
âYou know what I mean. An easy fu-â
âDonât you fucking dare!â The tone of his voice startles you. You never heard him talk like this. âI never wanted just an easy fuck. Especially not with you but that was all I could get!â Your head flinches back slightly. What is he talking about?Â
âBuckyâŚâ He doesnât let you continue.Â
âI donât know what has gotten into you because this⌠what you called it? Arrangement, yes, was never my idea! You were the one who didnât want to involve emotions. You were the one who said anything more than this would affect our friendship. I never said that!â
âI was trying to protect myself!â
âYou never showed any interest to me!â
You blink a couple of times, trying to process that information. What did he think you were doing with him?
âWhat the fuck are you talking about?â
âYou never showed any interest in staying over. You never wanted to do anything outside the bedroom or wherever the fuck we were fucking. Whenever I tried to take you on a date, you came up with a lazy excuse.â
âUh⌠what?â
âI tried so many times, sweetheart. You never let me in. You were only interested in sex and now you are blaming me for it. No. Be honest. If you wanna end this thing, itâs fine. You donât need any lies. I get it. I knew it would happen eventually.â Heâs speaking so fast, you canât even find any opportunity to interrupt him until he stops.
âYou tried to take me on dates?â He squishes his eyebrows together like he canât believe you are focusing on that part.
âMany times. I suggested study dates, tried to take you on that concert, then that one comedy club thingâŚâ
âI thoughtâŚâ You donât know how to finish that sentence.
âYou thought what? You knew what I was trying to do and you werenât interested, so I finally gave up.â
âNo, no, no.â You jump from your awkward position on the bed. âI never realized.â
âWhat did you think I was doing?â
âI thought⌠they were activities with other⌠people. Not dates.â
âWhy would I take other people to a concert with us?â Oh, he really doesnât get it.
âI thought⌠you had plans with your friends and⌠you were⌠inviting me as well. Just to show⌠we are nothing more than friends.â
âOh, dear god.â He covers his face with both of his hands. âSeriously? Why would you even think that?â
You mimic him and cover your face with embarrassment. You donât want to say it. Especially not to him.
âI⌠just never thoughtâŚâ You donât know how to say it without making him realize how low you think of yourself. âYou were interested in anything more than sex.â
âIâm handsome. Iâm popular. Everybody loves me. Is that why?â He repeats your words with that god-awful mocking tone and it hurts to hear. What you donât realize is that heâs making fun of himself.
âYeah.â Your response comes out so weakly but he hears it.
He starts to laugh all of a sudden and all you can do is give him a confused look.Â
âGod you are so blind.â
âHey!â You instantly respond.
âHave you ever looked in the mirror?â You make a face but it just spurs him. âYou are gorgeous and smart. I always thought you were way out of my league.â
âWhat?â
âYou heard me. You are out of my league.â
âCome on⌠Thatâs-â He interrupts you again.
âPlease.â The way he says it makes you stop talking. âI have been struggling to come to terms with you not liking me. I just told myself, you have done everything you can. You tried so many times. Itâs a miracle she still wants to fuck you. I convinced myself this was all I could get so I tried to make peace with it. Now you are telling me you donât want to keep doing this. What did you think I was gonna think?â
He just baffles you with every word coming out of his mouth. You look at him, not knowing what to say or what to think, even.
âAnd you thought you were just an easy fuck? Jesus, doll. Do you have any idea how many times I prepared myself for rejection? Every time I called you, I thought you werenât gonna pick up. Every time I texted you, I prepared myself to hear ânoâ, and every time it did not come, I was the happiest man on earth because I had one more night with you!â
You donât know when it started but you start to feel tears filling your eyes.
âPlease donât cry anymore.â He moves his hand on your face and catches a tear before it drops on your cheeks.
âIâŚâ Itâs so hard to speak normally. âI never thoughtâŚâ
âWhat?â This time it comes out softer. You know he wants to hear it because he needs that assurance as much as you do.
âYou would actually like me.â
âLike you? Oh, doll⌠I donât like you. The word like doesnât even cover it.â The smile he gives you ignites something inside you. Something you tried to push down for a long time. Suddenly you push him back a little bit and his mouth falls open but he doesnât get the chance to say anything. You just sit on his lap, taking him back inside you and it slips right back in so easily. It makes you want to moan out loud but instead, you wrap your legs around his torso and trap him there.
âOh fuckâŚâ His moan is like music to your ears. Itâs so raw and unfiltered.
You donât say anything. Your hand wraps around his neck before you start to move. His hand quickly finds your breasts, squeezing them a lot harder than he ever did before.Â
âYou are so fucking gorgeous.â He says right next to your ear. You feel his breath on your neck and his lips attach to your neck as if he knows what you want. He starts gently. First, he sucks the skin and makes you whimper. Then his teeth graze the sore skin. When he finally bites the same spot, you realize he was just giving you some time to protest but it never came. His bite pulls a groan out of you and the way it hurts falters your rhythm.
âSorry, I couldnât resist.â He licks the same spot, trying to soothe the pain. âThereâs a part of meâŚâ He tries to find the right word. â...that wants to mark you. Show the world that youâre mine.â Fuck, is he serious? He stops for another second to ask âAre you mine, doll?â He sounds so nervous yet possessive.
âI am.â You move a little back and look into his eyes while saying that. âI have been for a long time.â
He grabs your cheeks with both of his hands and pulls you in for a long, passionate kiss. It's all tongue and teeth, making you burn with passion.
âIâm yours, too. I think I always have been.âÂ
Itâs your turn to show how much those words mean to you. You start to move again on his lap. This time itâs faster than before and it just makes both of you moan loudly. He wraps his arms around your body while he supports your movement by grabbing your ass and moving you a bit faster than before.
âShit!â It feels good but it also restricts your range of movement and he realizes it quickly.
âSorry. I just want to feel you all over me.â
You want to say itâs alright but heâs a lot faster than you. Suddenly you find yourself on your back. Buckyâs still between your legs. He never left inside you while changing the position.Â
âWrap your legs around me, baby.âÂ
God, the way he says it sounds like a soft order. You can practically feel the desire running through your veins. Your legs are automatically wrapped around his ass while he starts to move but he doesnât put any distance between you. His whole body is pressed against yours while heâs kissing and licking all over your neck.
Sex with Bucky never felt like this. It was always good. You donât remember any occasion you didnât enjoy it or reach orgasm. Yet this feels like real intimacy. The way heâs making you feel is indescribable. You can feel everything he said before while he moves inside you. How much he wants you, how much he adores you⌠The way he clings to you fills you with love. All of it enhances the physical pleasure. Loud moans escape your lips.
âSo⌠All this timeâŚâ Bucky starts to talk. âYou thought I was here because this is easy.â
Ah, fuck. He isnât gonna let that go, is he? You shouldâve known that. You roll your eyes in response but he doesnât see it. His head is still buried in the crook of your neck.
âAll this time⌠I was where I wanted to be.â Your annoyance quickly fades away as he keeps talking. âUnderneath your body.â
âYou werenât always underneath me.â You answer him with a playful tone.
âAs long as Iâm inside you, the position doesnât matter.â
âSoâŚâ You try to ask as quickly as possible before your sudden courage disappears. âYou havenât been sleeping around with anyone else.â
He raises his head just to look into your eyes.Â
âAll this time, you thought I was fucking other people?â
âI meanâŚâ You were just friends with benefits. What else you were supposed to assume?
âWere you?â
âWas I what?â
âFucking other people?â His question is a lot more blunt than yours.
âI asked first!â You sound so defensive all of a sudden.
âI canât live without touching you, smelling you, feeling you⌠I have been craving you non-stop, only stopping myself from calling you every day, just so I wouldnât scare you away and you are asking me if I have been fucking other people. Jesus Christ, doll. How blind are you?â
You are questioning the same thing yourself, to be honest. How blind were you? While trying to surpass your feelings, you were overlooking his, as well. Itâs just unbelievable.
âDoll?â You didnât realize you were lost in thoughts. âItâs fine if you have been.â It doesnât sound fine at all. It sounds like heâs trying to rationalize it so it would hurt less. âIâm not saying I wonât be jealous but itâs not like we were actually together.â
You start to laugh and he gives you a strange look.
âYou are such an idiot and you call me blind.â
âWhat?â
âI only ever wanted you, you moron.âÂ
His smile is so big and bright, itâs worth everything you two went through. His happiness is practically radiating. Suddenly, his lips are on yours, kissing you like a madman.
âYouâre only mine.â He starts to move inside you again and you can feel how close you are to coming.
âOnly yours.â Your words make him groan loudly.Â
âFuck that mouth of yours. Youâre gonna make me come before you.â
âYou can do that later.â You tease him while moving your hips to meet him.
âIs that a promise?â
âIt can be. Only if you fuck me just a little harder so I can finally come!â
That makes him move away from you. He stands up and without losing any time, pulls you on the edge of the bed. You know whatâs coming and it makes you smile like a fool. He positions himself between your legs while pushing your knees on your chest. In a couple of seconds, heâs back inside you but the position feels so much better this time. A loud moan leaves your lips every time he hits that sweet spot inside you.
âHarder, huh?â
âYeah. Just like that.â Itâs so hard to not roll your eyes with the pleasure heâs giving you. Itâs familiar yet it feels so different this time.
âMy girl wants it rough. Why didnât you just say so?â He sounds cocky thereâs also a hint of eagerness in his voice. You can tell heâs close.
âDo I have to tell you everything?âÂ
âFrom now on, yes. You have to tell me everything.â That authoritative tone pushes you over the edge. âEvery fucking thing you feel, okay? Every fucking thing you want. I wanna know everything!â
âYes!â You practically scream. You donât know if you are answering him or just screaming because of the way he makes you feel. Your legs are shaking violently while your whole body tightens up. âFuck yes. Please, please, please, donât stop!â Your eyes are closed while you are riding your high.
That makes him groan so loudly. Even though you canât directly look at his face anymore, you just know heâs about to come. He starts to pound on you so forcefully, it just unlocks another level of orgasm for you. Both of your moans fill the room and he keeps going until he empties himself inside you. After what feels like an eternity, he pulls out of you and lays right next to you.
âFuck, that wasâŚâ The struggles to find the right word.
âOn another level?â You offer to end the sentence for him. Thatâs exactly how you feel.
âYeah.â He doesnât miss a beat. âWe shouldâve talked to each other before.â
âWe were busy doing other stuff.â You smile and he smiles back, knowing exactly what you mean.
âI guess we did everything other than talking things through, huh?â

He Hates Me, Doesn't He?
A series of random Bucky Drabbles that I can't let go but don't have the brain to make the whole complete plot of.
Summary: You hurt Bucky's girl, and now he hates you.
Pairing: tfatws!bucky x female!reader
Words: 6.7k++
Warnings: angstyyyyyyyyy, but with happy ending because I cannot live in agony. miscommunication galore. 'I want to strangle bucky's girlfriend.' soft reader, cold/mean bucky. bucky should've grovel more. horrible attempt of writing verbal arguments. nothing much but pain.
Inspiration: I remember reading a bucky fic years ago and I like the pain that it caused me to feel. Idk why the pain suddenly came back to me lately. So, this is my take on the same idea. I haven't able to find it. But when I do, I'll reblog it in my another acc!
Read my other works here: Masterlist
y/n had always been a steady presence in the Avengers, known for her gentle demeanour and unwavering support. Her relationship with Bucky Barnes had blossomed from a quiet friendship into something deeper. When they first met, Bucky was reserved and hesitant, still grappling with his past as the Winter Soldier. y/n, with her gentle nature and patient understanding, slowly helped him come out of his shell.
She remembered the sleepless nights they spent together when they were on the run with Steve and Sam. They'd share stories, and sometimes just sit in silence, her quiet company offering solace to Bucky's restless mind. The unspoken bond growing stronger with each passing day. Bucky looked up to her, finding comfort in her presence, and in turn, he became fiercely protective of her. They'd watch each other's backs during missions, their synergy on the battlefield a testament to their deep connection.Â
And somewhere along the line, she fell for him. She had fallen for Bucky's resilience and vulnerability, though she never expected more, knowing that a relationship was not what he needed right now. At least, that's what she thought. Little did she know, Bucky had always loved her; ever since the day she offered him tea the first night they were on the run to Wakanda. Maybe she was just simply aloof, or maybe Buckyâs flirting skills werenât translated the way he wanted, but they never crossed the line between friendship and âsomething moreâ.
Then when Jen came into the picture, it felt like things started to change. Jen was bold and confident, and it wasn't long before she caught Bucky's eye. Their relationship seemed to spring up overnight, and y/n, though hurt, tried to be happy for Bucky. Jen was supportive and caring, or so it seemed, and Bucky deserved happiness.
Now, as planned the team was instructed to moved into the Avenger compound for a few months to train new recruits. It had only been the first month but surely it was jam packed with endless of rigorous training sessions. The original teamây/n, Sam, Bucky, Jen, Clint, and his mentee Kate Bishopâwere all assigned to train the new recruits, with additional of few agents from different branches coming in to help out.
y/n was heading to the training room; she knew it was way too early but she thought that if she didnât get out of bed now, she might not even get up at all. To her surprise, she was not the first one. She saw a few new trainees were already on the way to the training room; some of them greeted her a good morning. She simply smiled at their enthusiasm.Â
The moment she entered the area, she overheard voices coming from the corner of the room. She paused, recognizing Jen's voice, which was raised and laced with contempt. Curiosity piqued, y/n stepped closer, staying just out of sight behind the white board. In hindsight, it might seem weird that she was sneaking around to eavesdrop on Jen, but she couldn't help it.
Initially, y/n liked Jen. She tried to welcome her into their tight-knit group and even supported her relationship with Bucky. However, as time went on, Jen began acting strange. The things she said about Bucky sometimes sounded condescending. She would make comments like, "It's amazing how well he's adjusted, considering his past," or, "It's great that he's trying so hard to be normal." The way she acted often differed from her words, with Jen giving Bucky disapproving glances or sighing heavily whenever he mentioned something from his troubled past.
She had noticed these discrepancies and started to feel uneasy around Jen. She couldn't shake the feeling that Jenâs support was just a facade. Now, standing behind the whiteboard, she strained to hear the conversation.
"âŚand honestly, I donât understand how anyone can trust him," Jen was saying. "I mean, sure, he's got that whole 'reformed hero' thing going on now, but letâs be real. He was Hydraâs pet assassin for decades. The things heâs done? Itâs unforgivable."
Her friend, another agent from a different branch, nodded hesitantly. "But youâre dating him, arenât you? Doesnât that mean you trust him?"
Jen laughed, a cold, humourless sound. "Dating him? Please. Iâm in it for the fame and the perks. Have you seen the way people look at us? Besides, heâs hot, Iâll give him that. But trust him? Never. People like him donât change. Theyâre broken. He's a monster, and he always will be. Itâs only a matter of time before he snaps again."
y/n felt a surge of anger rise within her. How dare Jen talk about Bucky like that?Â
Memories flooded her mind, flashing back to Buckyâs nightmare-plagued nights. She remembered the prominent dark circles under his eyes, the haunted look that never quite left his face. The silent pain he endured, adjusting to a modern world where he felt like an outsider, magnified when Steve left. She could still see the wary, suspicious glances people cast in his direction, the whispers behind his back when they first ventured out. Before the fame he acquired as he regained his reputation after the Flag-Smasher incident.
She had witnessed his hardships firsthandâthe nightmares that woke him in a cold sweat, the moments of crippling doubt and self-loathing. But she had also seen his triumphs, the small victories that slowly built his confidence. The first time he laughed freely in her presence, the genuine smile that lit up his face when he finally allowed himself to relax. She cherished those moments, the sunshine that broke through the clouds of his tortured past.
All of this came rushing back, breaking the chains on the Pandora's box inside of her. The fury she felt wasn't just for the disrespect to Bucky; it was for every ounce of pain he had suffered, every moment of joy he had fought so hard to reclaim. Her eyes hardened with resolve as she stepped forward, her voice steady but cold. "Take that back," she demanded, her presence startling both Jen and her friend.
Jen turned slowly, a smirk spreading across her face as she saw y/n. She knew from the beginning about the cute little crush y/n had on Bucky. To be frank, everybody sort of knew about it, except for Bucky somehow.Â
"Or else what, y/n?" she replied with a mocking tone. "Youâre quite pathetic arenât you? You think that I canât see how youâve been eye-fucking my boyfriend all this time? Come on, now. Backing him up would not give you a leeway into his pants, y/n."
y/nâs face went through a range of emotionsâshock, embarrassment, and then seething anger. Jenâs words were like poison, each one landing like a punch to the gut.
Jen continued, confidence oozing out of her cocky demeanor, "Besides, we all know that I can easily beat you in a fight, doll"Â
The use of dollâa nickname Bucky had given y/n from day one, when Steve had quite literally kidnapped Bucky from the governmentâmade y/n blood boil. Hearing it from Jen felt like a personal attack, a deliberate attempt to undermine everything she shared with Bucky.
And it was true that Jen had graduated top of her batch from the Avengers program and had countless successful missions under her belt, but y/n knew this wasn't about accolades or abilities. This was about something deeper, something more personal.
y/n clenched her fists, taking a step closer. "You think this is about who can fight better?" she said, her voice shaking with restrained fury. "This is about respect. You donât get to talk about Bucky like that."
Jen scoffed, a cruel smile on her lips. "Respect? For that monster? Youâre delusional. Heâs a ticking time bomb, a liability to the team. And deep down, everyone knows it."
y/nâs patience snapped. In one swift motion, she slapped Jen hard across the face, the sound echoing through the room. Jen stumbled and fell to the ground, shock and anger flashing across her features.
She stalks forward like a predator cornering its prey, "Iâm just done with your lies and your insults. Bucky deserves better than you." Jen instinctively crawled backwards towards the centre of the room. Seeing that she got the attention of the few new recruits she regained her composure, smirked again, but there was a flicker of uncertainty in her eyes. "Youâre pathetic, y/n," she taunted. "Defending a lost cause." her voice was loud enough for y/n to hear but quiet enough that the others might not be able to decipher her words.
At that moment, Bucky and Sam burst into the room, followed closely behind by a new recruit who alerted them of the incident. Buckyâs eyes widened as he took in the sceneâJen on the ground, y/n standing over her, shaking with rage. "Whatâs going on here?" His demand was completely ignored as y/nâs mind was hyper-focused on the wrath bubbling within her.Â
"Get up," y/n demanded, her voice shaking with wrath. Buckyâs momentarily froze as he watched the confrontation escalate before him. y/n, usually so composed, was now a whirlwind of rage, her eyes blazing as she stood over a trembling Jen. Bucky had always known her to be fierce in battle, but this was differentâthis was raw, unbridled anger. "I'm going to make you regret every word you said. So get on your fucking feet before I rip it off you.."Â
Jen, still on the ground, looked up at y/n with wide, teary eyes, playing the role of the victim to perfection. "Please, I didn'tâ I donât know what you'reâŚ," she whimpered, casting a fearful glance at Bucky and Sam, who had just arrived on the scene.
Bucky's mind raced. Why was she doing this? He stepped forward, trying to diffuse the situation. "y/n, hey!" he shouted, his voice a mix of confusion and anger. "What are you doing?"
Completely ignoring him, "Get up," y/n snarled, her eyes blazing with intensity. "Get up and fight me. Iâll show you who the real monster is." Jen looked up, her hand on her cheek, disbelief mingling with her fury. "Youâre crazy," she spat, scrambling to her feet.
Her response was only a furious shout. "I said, get up!"
"y/n, are you crazy?!" Bucky yelled, moving quickly to intervene. He grabbed her wrist, his grip tight and unforgiving.
She turned her fierce gaze towards Bucky; her expression momentarily faltering at the hurt in his eyes. "Bucky, you donât understand, she--" she began, but the words caught in her throat as she saw Jen's smirk flicker for just a second.
"There's nothing to understand," Bucky snapped. "Youâre acting insane."
y/n looked at him, her eyes filled with hurt and frustration. "Bucky, you have to listenâ"
But he cut her off, his expression hard. "I donât care! You hurt her, y/n. You think I donât see that bruise on her cheek?!" Bucky shouted, his face contorted with anger. His eyes, usually filled with a gentle warmth when he looked at y/n, were now blazing with fury. "This isnât like you, y/n. Iâve noticed that youâve never liked Jen, and I donât know why. But this? This is just immature and reckless." His metal grip on y/n's wrist was tighter than he intended. She winced, her eyes watering not just from the pain but from the sting of his words.Â
y/n had never seen Bucky like this. His anger was palpable, radiating off him in waves. It was like being hit with a physical force, and she felt her heart breaking under the weight of it. Tears welled up in her eyes, but she blinked them away, her anger flaring even hotter. "Bucky, you donât understand," she tried to explain, but the words caught in her throat.
Buckyâs expression remained hard, the force on her wrist tightening painfully. "You need to grow up, y/n," he seethed, his disappointment evident in his tone. "You're always causing drama lately, and it needs to stop. Jenâs been there for me in ways you havenât, and I wonât tolerate you attacking her like this."
The words cut through her like a knife. Her heart shattered at his harshness, at the realization that Bucky thought so little of her. She yanked her wrist free, feeling the sting of his grip lingering. "Fine," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Believe what you want."
Without another word, she turned and stormed out, leaving Bucky standing there, torn between confusion and guilt.
A gnawing sense of remorse tugging at him, but he couldn't shake the confusion and anger clouding his mind. "Jen, are you okay?" he asked, helping her to her feet.
Jen, tucking herself to his side, managed to summon a few tears, looking up at Bucky with a feigned innocence. "I donât know why she hates me so much," she murmured, playing her part perfectly.
Bucky fingers softly traces on her wounded cheek before his gaze switched to y/nâs retreating form, a knot tightening in his chest. He wasnât sure why those mean words had spouted out of his lips. Was it because he saw Jen injured on the ground and his protective instincts kicked in? Or was it because Jen had been whispering doubts in his ear about y/nâs loyalty, making him question his longtime friend?Â
The truth was, Bucky had always relied on y/nâs unwavering support. She had been his rock through the toughest times, and seeing her so furious, so hurt, shook him to his core. Yet, in the heat of the moment, he had lashed out, unable to reconcile the image of Jen crying with the fierce anger that radiated from y/n.
As Bucky comforted Jen, his mind was a storm of conflicting emotions. He couldn't shake the image of hurt on her face, nor could he ignore the nagging feeling that he was missing a crucial piece of the puzzle.
On the side, Sam was only able to watch the scene play out silently, a frown creasing his brow. He had a feeling there was more to this story, and he intended to get to the bottom of it.
As weeks passed, the rift between Bucky and y/n deepened, fueled by Jen's cunning manipulation. In a private conversation, Jen planted seeds of doubt in Bucky's mind, suggesting that y/n harboured hidden resentments and intentions.
"I hate to say it, Bucky, but maybe she's not who we thought she was," Jen insinuated, her voice dripping with false concern. "Maybe she's been hiding her true feelings all along, waiting for the right moment to strike."Â
Bucky, already vulnerable and confused after the incident in the training room, absorbed Jen's words like poison, allowing them to fester and take root in his mind. He began to view y/n through a new lens, one tainted by suspicion and distrust. This single conversation, filled with subtle manipulations and insidious suggestions, was all it took to fracture the bond between Bucky and y/n, leaving Bucky cold and distant towards the one person who had always stood by his side.
Most days he would avoid eye contact with her during team meetings, barely acknowledging her presence when they were forced to interact. In training sessions, his instructions to her were curt and clipped, lacking the warmth and camaraderie they once shared. y/n felt each of these interactions like a stab to the heart.
She couldn't understand how quickly Bucky had turned against her, how easily he had accepted Jen's version of events without even giving her a chance to explain. The hurt festered inside her, eating away at her sense of self-worth.
Then one night, as y/n sat alone on the rooftop, staring out into the darkness, Sam found her there. He knew this was where she retreated when she needed space to think, to process her emotions. He approached her cautiously, sitting down beside her without a word.
"Why aren't you at dinner, y/n?" Sam finally asked, breaking the silence. He could see the emptiness in her eyes, the weight of her sorrow pressing down on her.
She shook her head, her voice hollow. "Lost my appetite," she muttered, her gaze still fixed on the horizon.
Sam gently prodded, knowing there was more to her withdrawal than just a lack of hunger. "Is it because of what happened the other day at the training room?" he asked softly.
Instantly, her demeanor shifted. Anger flared in her eyes, directed not just at Jen and Bucky, but at the entire situation. "I don't want to talk about it, Sam," she snapped, her frustration bubbling to the surface. But Sam wasn't one to give up easily, especially when he knew how much y/n was hurting. "Come on, y/n," he urged, his voice gentle but insistent. "You can't keep bottling this up. Talk to me."
Her expression softened slightly at Sam's persistence, but the pain still lingered in her eyes. "Seriously, Sam, please just drop it," she pleaded, her voice wavering with emotion.
Sam could see the cracks forming in her facade, the vulnerability seeping through the tough exterior she usually projected. Without a word, he pulled her into a comforting embrace, letting her bury her face against his shoulder.
As she clung to him, her facade finally crumbled. Her lips trembled, her eyes filled with unshed tears. "He hates me, doesn't he?" she whispered, her voice barely audible over the sound of her own heartbreak. "Bucky hates me."
Sam held her tighter, offering silent comfort as she grappled with the weight of her sorrow. He knew there were no easy answers, no quick fixes to mend the shattered pieces of y/n's heart. But in that moment, all he could do was be there for her, a steady anchor in the storm of her emotions.
The dim glow of the kitchen's overhead light provided a faint sense of solace in the otherwise silent darkness of the compound. Bucky sat at the wooden table, his tired eyes staring blankly at the cup of untouched tea before him. It was a nightly ritual lately, this dance with sleeplessness and the haunting memories that lurked in the shadows of his mind yet again.
Footsteps broke the stillness, and Bucky's gaze shifted to the entrance of the kitchen. y/n stood hesitantly in the doorway, her presence casting a tentative aura over the room. There was a palpable tension between them, an unspoken weight that hung heavy in the air.
She cleared her throat, breaking the awkward silence. "Mind if I join you?" she asked softly, her voice barely above a whisper. She was expecting Bucky to ignore her completely but he didnât; Bucky simply shrugged nonchalantly, his guard seemed to flatter. "Suit yourself," he muttered.
As she quietly took a seat opposite him, a heavy silence settled between them. Bucky's thoughts churned with a whirlwind of emotions, each one vying for dominance over the others. His guard seemed to falter in the presence of her tentative yet comforting aura. The weight of his own vulnerability loomed large in his mind, drowning out the anger he had harboured towards her.
As the silence stretched between them, she felt a surge of compassion wash over her. She knew why he was awake at this time. She knew that the tea he brewed was to help him sleep. She was the one who planted that habit to him after all.
And despite everything that had transpired between them, she couldn't bear to see Bucky suffer alone. With a deep breath to steady her nerves, she decided to reach out to him, to offer what little comfort she could.
Without a word, y/n rose from her seat and moved to stand behind Bucky's chair. He stiffened at her touch, his muscles tense with apprehension. But as her gentle hands began to massage the tension from his neck, a wave of unexpected relief washed over him.
Her touch was soft and comforting, a stark contrast to the coldness he had grown accustomed to due to Jenâs unwillingness to acknowledge this side of him. She ran her fingers through his hair, coaxing him to relax, to let go of the burdens that weighed heavily on his shoulders. For a brief moment, Bucky allowed himself to forget the walls he had built around his heart. In her presence, her voice, and her touch; he felt a glimmer of hope, a flicker of warmth that he had long since forgotten.
But then, like a sudden gust of wind extinguishing a fragile flame, the weight of Jen's words came crashing back down upon him. Anger flared within him, hot and fierce, directed not only at y/n but at himself for allowing his heart to yearn for her.
He pushed himself away from the table, his movements sharp and abrupt. "I don't need your pity, y/n," he spat, his words laced with bitterness. "Just leave me alone."
With that, he stormed out of the kitchen, leaving y/n alone in the suffocating silence. The disbelief that clouded her thoughts gave way to a searing agony that twisted in her chest. How could he say such things? How could he push her away so callously, after everything they had shared?
y/n buried her face in her hands, her body trembling with the force of her sobs. The weight of her shattered dreams pressed down on her, crushing her spirit beneath its merciless grip. She had never felt so alone, so utterly abandoned by the one person she had trusted above all others.
The pain of losing Bucky, of losing the love that had sustained her through the darkest of times, threatened to consume her whole. Each breath felt like a struggle, each heartbeat a painful reminder of the emptiness that now filled her soul.
In that moment of crushing despair, she couldn't help but believe that Bucky truly hated her. The thought tore through her like a knife, leaving behind a raw, gaping wound that no amount of time or distance could ever hope to heal.
As she sat alone in the suffocating silence of the kitchen, y/n felt the full weight of her heartbreak descend upon her like a tidal wave. She was lost in a sea of pain and sorrow, drowning in the agony of losing someone she had loved so deeply, so completely. And in that moment, she couldn't help but wonder if she would ever find her way back to the surface again.
Unbeknownst to her, Bucky lingered just out of sight, his heart heavy with guilt. He wanted to go back, to take back his harsh words and hold her close, to chase away the tears that stained her cheeks. But the poison in his mind was too strong, clouding his judgement and trapping him in a cycle of self-destructive despair. And so, with a heavy heart, he turned and walked away, leaving y/n to cry alone in the darkness.
The mission had already been tense enough, but as y/n found herself face to face with Jen in a location she wasn't supposed to be, the atmosphere crackled with an added layer of hostility. It was as if fate had conspired to place them in this confrontation, and her jaw clenched involuntarily as she braced herself for what was to come.
Jen's presence in that spot was no coincidence, and she knew it. Her suspicions were confirmed as Jen turned to face her, a smirk playing on her lips, a gleam of malice in her eyes. y/n's grip tightened on her weapon, her pulse quickening as she prepared for the verbal assault she knew was coming.
"How does it feel, knowing that Bucky hates you now?" Jen's words sliced through the air like a knife, each syllable carrying the weight of y/nâs deepest fears. It was a direct hit, striking at the core of her insecurities, and for a moment, she felt as though the ground had been ripped out from beneath her feet.
But she refused to let Jen see her falter. With a steely resolve, she squared her shoulders and met Jen's gaze head-on, her expression a mask of defiance. She may have been shaken by Jen's words, but she refused to let them break her.
Ignoring the taunts, she focused on the mission at hand, determined to prove her worth despite Jen's attempts to undermine her. But with each passing moment, the weight of Jen's words hung heavy in the air, casting a shadow over y/nâs every move.
It was a battle on two fronts â against the enemy they faced together, and against the doubts that threatened to consume her from within. But she refused to back down, drawing strength from the knowledge that she fought not just for herself, but for the team she believed in with all her heart.
But Jen's relentless barrage of insults made it difficult to concentrate, her words like daggers slicing through y/nâs defenses.
"Aww come on y/n, bet youâre reeling in the loss right now, arenât you." Jen continued, her voice ice cold. "The Assetâs little lapdog, clinging to him like a lost puppy."
y/nâs temper flared at the insult, her grip tightening on her weapon as she fought to keep her emotions in check. But Jen's mocking laughter only fueled the fire burning within her, pushing her to the brink of her patience. "Shut your mouth, Jen," she growled, her voice low and dangerous. "Or I swear to God, I'll make sure that the team finds your body disassembled in one of these rooms."
Jen simply rolled her eyes, unfazed by her threat. "You love him that much, huh?" y/n had no intention to deny that fact; she does love him, "More than you ever could." her voice was firm and true. Jenâs smirk fell as she scoffed. "Ain't that cute, the Winter Soldier and his little psycho sweetheart."
Before y/n could respond, a voice cut through the tension like a knife, freezing her in place. It was Bucky, his expression dark and stormy as he stepped into view. "What's going on here?" he demanded, his eyes narrowing in suspicion as he took in the scene before him.
y/nâs heart sank as she realized that Bucky might have heard everything. She turned around to meet his eyes and his face confirmed her suspicion; he heard it. Bucky had heard everything â every taunt, every insult, every word exchanged between her and Jen; even the confession of her true feelings. She met his gaze; searching for some sign of understanding of his emotions and the little that she saw was: disappointment, betrayal and guilt, mirrored back at her in the depths of his stormy blue eyes.Â
In that moment, all she wanted to do was pull him into her arms, to pull him away from all the painful memories and hurtful words; so far away that he would forget he had ever been taunted, betrayed, or made to feel less than he was.
Before she could utter a word, let alone take a step towards him, Jen's voice broke through, but it lacked the usual confidence. "Bucky, it's not what you think," she stammered, her eyes darting nervously between Bucky and y/n. "I-I was just..."
y/nâs clenched her jaw, her patience wearing thin as Jen stumbled over her words, unable to come up with a coherent explanation. She could see the confusion and hurt in Bucky's eyes, a reflection of the turmoil raging within her own heart.
"I-I mean," Jen continued, her voice faltering. "I was...um...just trying to...uh..."
But her feeble attempts to justify her actions only served to further incense Bucky. His brow furrowed in anger, his fists clenched at his sides as he struggled to make sense of the situation.
"Enough," he growled, his voice low and dangerous. "I don't want to hear any more lies."
y/nâs heart ached as she watched Bucky's expression darken with anger and disappointment. She wanted to explain, to tell him the truth about Jen's betrayal and her own misguided attempt to defend him. But the words caught in her throat, choked by the weight of her guilt and regret.
With a heavy sigh, Bucky turned away, his shoulders slumped with defeat. "Let's just finish the mission," he muttered, his voice heavy with exhaustion. "We'll deal with this later."
As he was about to walk away, y/n noticed a red dot on his chest, the unmistakable mark of a sniper's laser sight. Without thinking twice, she leaped towards him, her body acting as a human shield. Time seemed to slow down as she collided with Bucky, pushing him out of the way.
"y/n, no!" Bucky shouted, his voice filled with panic as her body slumped against his chest.
In the chaos, Jen was nowhere to be seen. She had slipped away, taking shelter and ultimately fleeing the area as she heard multiple footsteps approaching.
Bucky tried to pull up his gun, but it was too late. An array of bullets rained down on them. He felt the searing pain of a few shots piercing his own flesh, but it was nothing compared to the sight of y/nâs body being riddled with bullets. She was hit in the shoulder, wrist, thighs, and other places Bucky couldn't even register.
Rage surged through Bucky like an inferno, obliterating any semblance of restraint. He moved with a deadly precision, his eyes blazing with fury as he unleashed a storm of bullets on the enemy. His movements were swift and unforgiving, every shot finding its mark with brutal accuracy. The enemy fell one by one, their bodies collapsing in lifeless heaps. The air was filled with the deafening sound of gunfire and the acrid smell of gunpowder, but Bucky's focus was unyielding.
Within moments, the room was cleared, the enemies wiped out in a flurry of rage-fueled vengeance.
The adrenaline ebbed away, leaving Bucky standing amidst the carnage, his chest heaving. He turned, and his eyes fell on y/n's crumpled form. The sight of her lying in a pool of her own blood shattered his rage, replacing it with a crushing wave of worry and panic.
"Hang in there. Please," Bucky hastily spoke, his voice trembling. He activated his com line, desperation seeping into his tone. "Guys, we need help. y/n... she's... she's been shot. We need to get out of here right now!" Panic coursed through him as he turned his attention back to y/n, frantically trying to stop the bleeding on her stomach. "y/n, dollâŚplease" he pleaded, watching her hazy gaze. "Don't you dare give up on me now. Come on."
"babydoll, stay with me!" Bucky cried, his voice breaking as he cradled her in his arms. Blood soaked through her clothes, staining his hands. "Please, hang on, you canât leave yet. I haven't told you... I haven'tâ"Â
Her eyes fluttered open, her breathing shallow and ragged. "It's okay, Bucky," she whispered, her voice barely audible over the chaos. "It's okay. Don't cry." Her shaking hands struggled to move, and with great effort, she managed to cup Bucky's cheek. The gesture was weak but filled with tenderness. "It's okay," she repeated, her fingers trembling against his skin.
"Don't talk like that," Bucky choked out, his own tears mingling with the blood on his face. "You can't.. I haven't told you...please doll..." His voice wavered with the weight of unspoken words and unconfessed feelings. He hadn't told her how much he truly cared for her, how every moment spent away from her felt like an eternity. He hadn't begged for forgiveness for his coldness, his mistakes, and for letting Jen's poison taint his actions. The guilt gnawed at him, each heartbeat a reminder of the words he hadn't said, the emotions he hadn't expressed.Â
He pressed her hand harder against his cheek, feeling the warmth of her touch anchoring him in the moment. Her hand weakly brushing against his cheek. "I know, sweetheart," she murmured. "I know."
Bucky's heart shattered as he clung to her, feeling her life slipping away. "No, no, no," he muttered desperately. "You can't leave me. Please, y/n. Please."
She smiled faintly, her eyes closing. "I'm here, Bucky. I'm right here."
With a final, shuddering breath, y/nâs consciousness slipped away. Bucky felt a surge of panic, but he knew he had to move. He lifted her limp body, cradling her against his chest as he ran towards the quinjet. Each step was agony, his own injuries slowing him down, but he didn't care. All that mattered was getting y/n to safety.
"Hang on, y/n," he whispered, his voice trembling. "Hang on. I won't let you go."
In the sterile environment of the medical bay, y/n lay unconscious, her body hooked up to various machines that monitored her vital signs. Bucky sat by her bedside, his eyes red-rimmed and swollen from crying. Every beep of the monitor seemed to echo through the silence, a haunting reminder of her fragile state. He held her hand, his thumb gently caressing her bandaged wrist.
Memories of their time together flooded Bucky's mind, each one a bittersweet reminder of the connection they shared. He remembered the laughter they had shared, the late-night conversations that stretched into the early hours of the morning. He remembered the gentle touch of her hand, the warmth of her smile that never failed to chase away the darkness.
But amidst the memories, there was also pain â the pain of their last conversation, the words left unsaid and the choices left unmade. Bucky's throat tightened as he recalled the day he had walked away from Jen, the air thick with tension and unspoken truths.
His voice was cold and final. "You almost got her killed, Jen," he had said, his eyes blazing with anger. "Stay away from us. Stay away from me."
Jen's eyes had flashed with anger, her words cutting like knives as she lashed out in frustration. "And what, you think you'll find someone better than me?" she had spat, her voice dripping with venom. "Good luck with that, Bucky. You'll never find anyone who would put up with your baggage."
But Bucky had remained resolute, his decision fueled by a sense of longing and regret that threatened to consume him whole. "Maybe not," he had admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. "But I'd rather be alone than with someone who doesn't truly care about me."
Now, as Bucky sat by y/nâs bedside, the weight of his decision bore down on him like a crushing weight. Tears welled in his eyes as he reached out to gently brush a strand of hair away from her face, his fingers trembling with emotion.
"I'm so sorry, babydoll," he whispered, his voice thick with unshed tears. "I never meant for any of this to happen. So, please, wake up. I need you."
But y/n remained unconscious, her breathing shallow and weak as she lay before him. And as Bucky watched over her, his heart heavy with worry and regret, he vowed to do whatever it took to bring her back to him, to keep her safe from harm for all eternity.
For in that moment, Bucky realized that he couldn't bear to lose her â not now, not ever. She was his rock, his anchor in a world of uncertainty and pain. And as he held her hand tightly in his own, he prayed with all his heart that she would find her way back to him, to the love and light that had always guided them through the darkness.
The soft hum of machines filled the air as y/n stirred awake, her senses slowly coming back to her. She blinked, disoriented at first, until her gaze fell upon Bucky, who was sleeping soundly in the chair beside her bed. His hands were clasped tightly around hers, his face peaceful in slumber, but she couldn't help but notice the tear stains on his cheeks, the dark circles under his eyes, the worry lines etched into his forehead.
"How long has it been since?" she wondered to herself, her heart aching at the sight of Bucky's exhausted form. She carefully sat up, trying not to disturb him as she lovingly examined his sleeping face. She couldn't help but smile as she gently ran her fingers through his hair, the soft strands slipping through her fingertips.
Bucky groaned as his sleep was interrupted, muttering something about Sam needs to leave him be; before he abruptly sat up, his eyes wide with disbelief. "Hi there," y/n greeted softly, her eyes sparkling with affection as she watched Bucky's reaction.
For a moment, Bucky seemed unable to comprehend that she was finally awake. His eyes widened in disbelief, his mouth slightly agape. But then the realization hit him, and he threw himself at her, wrapping her in a tight embrace as if she were the most precious thing in the world .Despite the pain that shot through her body, she managed to let out a soft chuckle, returning his embrace with equal fervor. The warmth of his embrace chased away the lingering chill of unconsciousness, and for a moment, everything felt right.
"y/n..." Bucky breathed into her neck, his voice trembling with emotion. She hummed in response, her heart swelling for him. "Hmmm?"
Not wanting to let go of her, Bucky called her name once again, his voice wavering with uncertainty. "y/n-..." She paused, her lips curving into a tender smile as she whispered in his ear, "Yes, Bucky?"
Bucky tightened his grip, his breath hitching in his throat as he buried his face in her shoulder. y/n gently rubbed his back, her touch soothing and comforting as she reassured him, "I'm here, sweetheart." The scent of her hair, the feel of her warmth against himâit all felt overwhelming. Emotions churned inside him like a tempest. Relief, guilt, love, and fear battled for dominance, leaving him raw and exposed.
She gently rubbed his back, her touch soothing and comforting as she reassured him, "Bucky, I'm not going anywhere.
Bucky's mind raced, images of the past few weeks flashing before his eyes. He remembered the coldness with which he'd treated her, the cruel words that had slipped from his lips, fueled by Jen's poison. He thought of the sleepless nights, the nightmares that had gripped him, and the aching void he'd felt every time he saw y/nâs hurt expression.
"I'm so sorry," he whispered, his voice muffled against her shoulder. "For everything. For not believing you. For pushing you away."
Reluctantly, she pulled away, but not before wiping the tears from Bucky's cheeks and fighting the urge to place a tender kiss on his forehead. As she looked into his eyes, she could see the depth of his love and the pain he had endured for her sake. And in that moment, she knew that she had found her home in his arms. Bucky took her hands in his own, his eyes closed as he pressed a kiss to her wounded wrists. "This will never happen again. Ever," he vowed, his voice filled with determination.
Moved by his words, y/n felt her heart flutter with emotion. She realized in that moment that she could never stay angry at him, no matter what had transpired between them. She understood now that they were both at fault, both victims of circumstance and misunderstanding.
With a surge of courage, she reached out and pulled Bucky into a kiss. Her lips met his in a slow, passionate embrace, pouring all of her love and forgiveness into the tender gesture. It was a moment of connection, of healing, of reaffirming their bond despite the trials they had faced.
The taste of Bucky's lips was like a soothing salve to her soul; it was intoxicating. It felt as if the world had fallen away, leaving only the two of them entwined in each other's arms. When they finally broke apart, Bucky whispered those three words that y/n had longed to hear, "I love you."
Her heart soared with joy, and she couldn't help but tease him, "Took you long enough." her teasing words met with a cheeky grin from Bucky.  "I love you too, Bucky" she blinked slowly. As he whispered softly under his breath, "Come here," he pulled her back into the kiss, their lips meeting in a tender embrace that spoke volumes of their unspoken love. And in that moment, amidst the chaos and uncertainty of their world, they found solace in each other's arms, knowing that together, they could weather any storm.

Bucky stopped at the doorstep as Y/Nâs laugh made its way to his ears.Â
His eyes immediately found her, sat down at the kitchenâs bar, a box of cereal in her hand. She was heartily speaking with Sam, and like any time she was talking about something she was passionate about she was speaking with her hands. Bucky couldnât make out what they were discussing, something about milk and cereals that seemed to leave Steve, sat with them, totally unbothered.
While he really needed a cup of coffee before Tonyâs briefing, he hesitated to go in. He wasnât really in the mood for small talk - truth was, these days, he wasnât in the mood to talk at all, especially to Y/N. Eyeing the coffee machine Y/Nâs had her back turned to, he decided she was way too into her conversation to even notice him. He could just go in, take his coffee and leave.Â
Yeah, it was a solid plan.Â
Though it was without counting on Sam calling after him, as soon as he put a foot in the kitchen. Y/N turned to him right away, her face lighting up.
âHi!â She greeted him, a big smile on her lips that Bucky tried very hard not to look at all.
Bucky only responded by a sharp nod and nearly run to the coffee machine. Her smile faltered slightly at his cold attitude. She watched him get himself a cup of coffee for a second more before she looked back to her own cereal bowl.
Steve frowned to the exchange; he was used to Bucky and Y/N being quite friendly towards each over. Ever since Bucky had been back in the country, Y/N had been part of his rehabilitation protocol. While Tony and Bruce were working on reversing his trigger words, Y/N was working with Bucky as a physical therapist, to try and fix his chronic right shoulder pain. She had been an army physical therapist, serving one tour in Afghanistan, and was specialized on injuries that led to limb amputation.
While the beginning had been complicated - especially due to how unstable Bucky was at the beginning, Y/N had succeeded on getting Bucky to open up to her. The last months, Steve had even found out Bucky was more eager than before going to his PT session. Whenever Y/N was around, Bucky - who normally wouldnât stay in the common room and much preferred to stay in the quiet of his own room - would linger a little bit longer with them. Despite whatever Bucky would say, Steve just knew his friend had a crush on Y/N (by judging how red his face turned that one time Steve asked him, it was a pretty good crush).Â
The blond watched as Bucky left rapidly after he got his coffee. Y/N too had watched him, Steve realized when he turned to her. Her face was wearing a small frown, and her eyes were fixed on the last place Bucky could have been seen.
âYou alright?â he asked.
As always, Y/N looked back to him and smiled. She didnât fool him though. Steve didnât know what was wrong and clearly, she didnât know either.
Over the next week or so, Steve found himself with a lot of dĂŠjĂ -vu.
Y/N would enter in a room Bucky was in and he would magically disappear. Bucky would find whatever good excuses not to do his physical therapy session - volunteering for missions he didnât even have anything to do with in the first place. He even wouldnât put a foot on the twenty-six floor - where Y/N had her office - if he knew she was most likely to be there - that was to say, basically every hour of every week day (Yes, Y/N had a slight work addiction).
It was clear for Steve now, Bucky was avoiding Y/N for whatever reason. Even Tony had asked if everything was alright between the two and he wasnât the one to notice a lot of things about his own relationship - let alone other peopleâs relationship.
That morning, Steve had finally decided he would clear the air and talk to Bucky. He had asked him to join him in the kitchen for a coffee and this was of course at this exact same moment, Y/N had decided to get out of her office for some well-deserved break.
When she entered the room, Bucky looked like a deer caught in the headlights and stayed frozen in his seat, he didnât have time to flee this time. Though he had been avoiding her, Y/N still seemed to be happy to see him.
âHi!â she greeted them with a smile on her face. She picked her favorite cup from the cupboard and put the kettle on. She turned to Bucky naturally while she waited for the water to be ready. âHow is your arm?â
âWell, actually.â Steve had barely heard Bucky as he mumbled.
âNo pain whatsoever?â
âNope.â
âCool then!â
Y/N smiled as Bucky turned his attention back to his cup of coffee. She rolled on her feet, probably searching for a topic to continue the discussion - this was the most words they had exchanged in the last two weeks. She seemed to search and search again, but nothing came to her mind.
The sharp sound of the electric kettle stopping seemed to bring her back on earth. She looked at Steve and then back to Bucky, who was looking at everything but her. Again, Steve saw the way her smile faltered from his friendâs attitude and as her heart seemed to drop further in her chest. She was hurt he was pushing her away.
âLet me know if you need anything.â And without yet another glance at Bucky, she left. Totally forgetting about the cup of tea she was making.
Steve watched her go and then turned to Bucky, eyebrows furrowed. "What's going on between you two?"
Bucky looked up, eyebrows raised as if he was surprised Steve even asked about it. He didnât even try to explain everything was fine and the blond didnât know if it was because to him, everything was actually right, or because he was even surprised anyone had noticed his attitude.
âDonât look at me like that. I know you were lying. It still hurts you.â
ââM fine,â Bucky muttered, eyes going back to his cup of coffee.
"Every time she is around lately, you just... disappear."
Bucky swallowed, hard. So it was that obvious. He really thought he was being subtle. He was such a nobody at the compound that making himself even smaller that usually, nobody noticed. Of course not.
"I had a dream about her..." Steve only frowned even more - how was that a bad thing? "y'know," Bucky added with a tilt of his head, trying to accentuate what he meant. He didnât want to say it out loud; it was already as embarrassing as it was.
Oh! Steve seemed to understand.
"What's wrong about that?"
His friend gave him a knowing look. What was wrong with that? What was wrong with THAT? He had imagined kissing her, touching her, caressing her. He had seen what he imagined she looked like without her clothes on. It had felt real, so -so- real.
It had been a little bit more than two weeks now and he still remembered every little details. No matter how busy he was keeping his self, he still had flashes of it at the most random times of the day. At night, he couldnât close his eyes without reliving the scene, feeling her hands on his body and so he lived of no sleep and a lot of black coffee. He couldnât concentrate on anything, it was driving him crazy.
Now, he couldnât look at her without thinking about this. He tried his best not to be in the same room as her or not speak to her. The simple thought of being near her was overwhelming, let alone to have her touching him during one of his physical therapy sessions.
"Bucky, that's fine. She is one of the nicest person I know. She will tell you if that makes her uncomfortable, you'll talk about it and that will be fine."
Bucky groaned. There was no way he would admit this to her; this was already as embarrassing as it was to discuss this with Steve. He had been used to the other way around. In his past life, he had been the one giving Steve advices on how to act with the ladies, even setting him up on blind dates. Somehow, he felt like he was this thirteen-year-old looking at pinup posters in New York streets again.
"And you never know, she might be interested after all."
"How could she?â Bucky huffed, disgusted with himself. âHave you looked at me recently?"
When Bucky finished his cup and turned to Steve, his body language was indicating he was done with this discussion. Steve looked at him with one of his signature sympathetic glances. To Bucky, it felt more like pity than anything else. Steve was pitying him, old poor brainwashed Bucky, who had been kidnapped and forced to do horrible things. Hydra had made him a living time bomb and he felt it more than ever now.
"Come on Bucky, you know that's not true!"
Too late, Bucky was long gone.
Bucky felt like he was cursed.
He had been trying to avoid Y/N. Just for a little bit longer, just for as long as he couldnât forget about their dreamed intimate moment. Yet, he continuously found himself in situations where she was too. Like when Tony invited her to their weekly catch-up on how they were planning to remove his trigger words from his head. Like when Sam invited her to the team dinner.
Or like today, when he found himself in the elevator... Alone with Y/N.
They stayed silent for most of the ride. After the last few weeks of she couldnât get Bucky to talk to her despite her best effort, Y/N seemed to be out of subjects to discuss and preferred looking at her hands. A minute before they arrived on the first floor though, she couldnât help turn to him and ask the question that was burning her lips for a few days now:
"Did I do something wrong?"
Bucky looked up from his own feet to frown at Y/N, a couple of steps from him. He had purposely left a lot of space between them when she boarded the elevator, but even from where he was, he could still smell her perfume and somehow feel her skin touching his.
He frowned at her, as if he didnât know what she was talking about. Y/N looked frustrated, even angry at little bit, and she had every right to be. They went from seeing each other twice a week for physical therapy session and sharing a few moments on every occasion they got to nothing at all.
She had replayed the events in her head, trying to find what she could have done wrong, and she just couldnât make out what had happened.
"Your arm, it's bothering you, I can see," she pointed out. Even if he didnât want to talk to - and even look at - her, she continued to watch out for him. "Why donât you just come to me?"
"It's fine," Bucky sharply answered. A little too harshly.
The look of hurt on Y/Nâs face made Buckyâs heart break. He knew he was unfair to her, yet he couldnât admit what was going on. She was a too good person to be around him, a poor fuck-up man and a world known assassin.
Despite everything he was putting her through, Y/N didn't want to admit defeat and after the initial shock of the ton he had used to talk to her, she was ready to speak again.
âPlease, just don't,â Bucky spoke more softly this time just at the same time as the elevator doors opened.
âBucky, I-â
But he was gone before she could say anything more.
Y/N was now avoiding him like the plague.
At first, Bucky had been relieved. Now, his heart only sunk when they shared a look and Y/N was quick to look away. He was longing to see her yet whenever he would go up to her office, she wasnât there. She didnât venture to the compoundâs kitchen any longer; and he knew it because a small coat of dust had started to cover her favourite cup. He had even tried to ask Steve how she was doing, but the only answer he got was always a âwhy donât you ask her yourself?â - after the way he had talked to her, Bucky couldnât bring himself to do it.
As usual, Bucky would be having his last coffee of the day during his afternoon break, just before he would go meet the team for a strength training session at the compound gym. Steve and his reusable water bottle stomped into the room and huffed finding Bucky here. He continued his way to the water dispenser to fill it. Bucky watched, frowning, as he pushed the button so hard it nearly felt off. His annoyance was irradiating all around him and Bucky didnât remember to have seen him so⌠sulking before.
âWhatâs going on?â Bucky asked his friendâs back.
Steveâs shoulder dropped as he seemed to take a breath in. He turned slowly, a shadow on his face. His water bottle was very close to being overfilled and his hand also very close to crush it.
âY/N has resigned,â his voice was a bit deeper than usual, âeffective immediately.â
âI donât understand-â
âShe is leaving, Bucky.â
The information seemed to get to Buckyâs brain in an instant. He immediately got up, literally throwing the stool he was sat on away. He run to the elevator and when it didnât come quick enough, he decided he would run up the stairs to the level Y/Nâs office was on. He ran up the corridor and nearly took the door of his office off the hinges while opening it.
Y/N was there, putting the last books she had on her shelves in a box. She stopped in her tracks from the surprise of the brutal intrusion and gave him a dirty look.
âI really donât have time for this.â
Her voice was cold and sharp, and Bucky wondered if that was how he had talked to her. It hurt him so much to see only anger in her eyes and to know that everything they had shared was lost. All because of him.
And that was probably why he spoke without thinking:
âIâm attracted to you.â
Y/N dropped the book she had in her hand. She looked at him - he looked at her â and Bucky didnât let any time for her to open her mouth to speak. He didnât want to lose the courage he had gather to open up his shell.
âIâve been attracted to you for⌠well, since being back, but I only realized this wasnât just a crush â Peter told me that word â until very recently.â He breathed shakily. âI didnât know how to handle. This (he gestured between the two of them) is much more than just physical attraction. I have feelings for you and I shouldnât be feeling that.â
âBuckyâŚâ Y/N sighed, getting around her desk to approach him.
âYou and I know, I canât be feeling like that,â Bucky repeated while Y/N shook her head. âAnd I am so sorry. I know this doesnât change how badly I have acted towards you, but I hope with time that I can earn your trust again.â
âI am pretty sure we had this conversation before,â Y/N told him, putting away a string of his hair. She was now in front of him, so close to what they had never been in the last few months. âYou canât decide what other people can think or feel. I know itâs easier to push people away when things get tough, but we need you to tell us what is going on in this brain of yours. Okay?â
Tears in his eyes, Bucky nodded. Y/N smiled at him sweetly and all of his problem suddenly seemed to have disappeared.
âI understand this can be a very difficult thing to hear, but you are a good person, Bucky. Whatever happened to you doesnât define you.â She hugged him, so hard, as if they were reunited after a long time away. âAnd for the record, I also have a crush on you.â

Was It A Mistake - Part 3
Pairing: Bucky x Fem Reader Chapter Summary: Short chapter... I'm sorry!! Steve enters the chat and helps the reader. Nat and Bucky argue and Natasha admits something. Warning: Angst... cursing
Series Masterlist
--
You lay on your stomach, sobbing uncontrollably . This isnât how you wanted to confront them. Would Bucky even believe you anyway? Natasha grew up being a spy; lying is what she does, and she's really good at it. Thinking about everything she has done makes you so betrayed, sad, and above all angry.
Suddenly there is a knock on your door. You try your best to calm your breathing, as you cautiously walk to the door. You hear the muffled voice of Steve. âY/N? Can you let me in?âÂ
Tears continue to fall down your face. âIâm not really in the mood, Steve,â you say in a shaky voice.
âY/N, please. I know what is going on, and I want to help you."
You take a deep breath and slowly open your door. Steve looks at you with sympathy and sadness. Before you can even say something, Steve wraps you in his arms, pulling you into a strong hug and closes the door behind him with his foot.
You didn't realize how much you really needed a hug like this. You allow yourself to sob again into Steveâs chest as he rubs his hand up and down your back.
âItâs okay, youâre gonna be okay,â he whispers in your ear.
You start to calm down and eventually pull out of Steve arms, walking toward your bed. Steve follows you and sits beside you against your headboard with his arm around your shoulders.
âThanks Steve, I really needed that. I feel so alone,â you say sniffing.
Steve pulls you closer and kisses your head. âYou're never alone, Y/N. Iâm always here for you,â he says. âI heard what happened in the common room.â You look away embarrassed.
âIâm sorry you heard that. I really didnât want to confront her out in the open, but I just got so angry,â you say, tears threatening again. "She ruined my relationship and is getting away with it! And Bucky... I honestly don't know if he would ever believe me. I don't know if there is a point to fighting with them anymore."
Steve shakes his head. âDonât apologize about the outburst out there, especially when youâre right, about everything.â
You look at Steve surprised. âHow do you know I am right?â You ask.
Steve gives you a small smile and gives your shoulder a squeeze. âWell, remember when you spoke to me about Bucky becoming distant, and you didnât know why?" he asked.
You nodded in response. "Well, the other day when I was talking to Bucky, he told me someone told him you wanted to break up with him. Obviously I figured something more happened behind the scenes, and with the help of Friday, I was able to get some things that proved that Nat is the master puppeteer in this scenario.â
You look down at your lap and shake your head sadly. âIt won't matter, anyway. He's fallen for her. She's already won," you say as tears fall again. You wipe them angrily.
"He took her to our place, Steve! The one place that was for the two of us! He doesnât care about me anymore,â You sniff again. âI⌠I donât know if I can stay here, anymore. All I want to do is kill her, and it kills me to see him. My heart is so broken, and seeing him everyday makes it break more.â
Steve looks at you for a moment, âWell, I mean I donât want you to leave. I actually want to help you convince Bucky of the truth, but itâs up to you. Regardless, I am going to show Bucky what Nat's doing. And if you don't want to confront Nat with the evidence, I will, because she's messing with two of my best friends," Steve said.
You look up at him, âI-I donât know what to do, but I know I need some space, at least for a few days to gather my thoughts,â you say.
Steve smiles and kisses your forehead, âI know where you can stay, and Iâll be the only one who knows where you are. While youâre there, I'll start coming up with a plan, and give you all the details.â
You hug Steve. âThank you Stevie. You have always been a great friend.â
He laughs. âEhh⌠you're family, Y/N,â he says as he holds you.
â
Bucky's pacing in his room, agitated. Itâs been 3 days since the confrontation in the common room and he is even more confused. The things you said really threw him for a loop. Is it really true that you didnât want to break up with him in the first place? Did Nat really lie, just so you would break up with him? Why? Nat seemed so genuine when she spoke to him, and held him while he cried over you, every night for weeks.
Bucky hasnât been able to sleep since the blow out in the common room. Besides being more confused, he hasnât seen you since. He knows you're going to avoid him even more now, and he can't stand it. He's going nuts! He walks past your room as many times as he can, hoping to see you, but never does. He's too scared to knock, thinking you would slam the door in his face, which he knows he deserves. He feels like he has zero control over this situation and it's leaving him feel very anxious.
He knows it was stupid to take Nat to your place. He knew it was sacred, but still let Natasha convince him. The look in your eyes when you saw the bag in Natâs hand was the most heartbreaking thing he has seen. He never wanted to see you or make you so devastated. He wanted to run to you and hold you in his arms letting you cry, but you were also angry, at him. He doesnât blame you, he knows he deserves whatever you give him. He at least had you as a friend after the break up, but now he doesnât have you at all. He's completely miserable without you. He needs you. He loves you more than anyone or anything in his life.
He needed to fix this, that he knew. He didnât know where to start. His bedroom door suddenly opens to reveal Nat leaning against the frame with a small smirk.
âHey handsome," she says in a sultry voice.
He barely looks at her, not in the mood. âHi,â he says, defeated.
He walks over and sits at the edge of his bed. Nat comes into the room and sits next to him.
âWhatâs wrong? You've barely spoken to me in days. We went from hot and heavy to ice cold,â Nat says concern and frustration in her voice.
Bucky finally looks at her, searching for the answers he's desperate to find. âI⌠I just need time to think, about everything. Something's still not adding up.â
Nat sighs in frustration and stands in front of Bucky with her hands on her hips. âWhat donât you fucking understand, Bucky?! Do you honestly believe her? The girl who broke your heart, over me? I'm the one who picked up the pieces and has made you happy again!â Nat yells. âI mean, I donât understand! What fucking spell does she have you under? Why do you believe her and not me!?â
Bucky is taken aback by her outburst. Suddenly instead of feeling helpless and confused, he feels angry and protective of you. He slowly stands, towering over Nat, glaring. âI have every right to be confused. Donât you dare attack her character or me! I didn't say I didnât believe you, I'm just trying to figure it out! Why wonât you give me some god damn time!?â Bucky yells.
Natâs face turns red with anger. âBecause she is trying to break us apart! Donât you get it? She's jealous that you want me! She broke you! I fixed you! You should always side with me! I'm your girlfriend! I'm the one who really loves you!â she screams!
Buckyâs face goes from anger to shocked. âY-you love me?â he asks in a whisper.
Nat nods, calmly, tears forming in her eyes. âYes, Bucky I love you. Iâve loved you for so so long. These past few weeks finally being close to you, and the last few weeks of us dating have been so special to me,â Nat says through tears.
She walks up, still crying and pulls Bucky into a crushing hug. She starts sobbing into his shoulder. She kept repeating âI just love you so much. I don't ever want to let you go. Don't ever let me go, please,â through her sobs.
Bucky stands there in a daze in complete shock over what Nat was saying. All thatâs going through his mind is, this isnât right. He needs to speak to you, as soon as he can.
--
Part 2 - Part 4
Nat is starting to lose it. Now please don't come at me for portraying Nat in this way. I love Nat, but I just decided to take the story in this direction. Anyway, will Steve be able to convince Bucky with the help of Friday? What did he see? Feedback is appreciated.

Masterlist | Bucky Barnes Smut Menu | Fandom-Free Bingo | Bucky Barnes Masterlist | Part two
Youâre standing in front of your mirror; your red dress fits perfectly around your body, and you only need to fix your hair before youâre ready for your date with Bucky, or at least your fake date with him. The two of you are on a mission right now, dating each other, so no one will know that you're Avengers.
You hear the bathroom door opening and a gasp leaving Bucky's lips. With his eyes on you, he admires your back before his eyes move to look through the mirror. You smile softly when you see his blue eyes looking up and down, trying to see every inch of your body.
âYou look beautiful, doll,â he tells you, and the feeling in your stomach, the one you have just with Bucky, grows.
Youâre best friends, but something between the two of you changed. There are feelings for each other you have never felt for someone before. And now that youâre going on a date with him, even if itâs just a fake date, it feels like he really asked you out.
âThank you, you too,â you mumble with a slight blush on your cheeks.
He walks a step closer and leans his shoulder against the wall. His hands running through his hair, the shirt, and his pants look like they were made for him.
âCan we?â he asks, smirking when you try to get your hair under control.
You nod while you turn around and fix your hair, walking a few steps closer to Bucky. His eyes are still on you, focused on every move youâre making. Bucky's nose is slightly scrunched while he smirks at you.
His hands are immediately around your waist when he is able to reach you, bringing your body closer to his. Bucky leans forward until he reaches your ear.
âWhen this would be a real date and not only for that mission, I would immediately help you to take off your clothes,â he mumbles into your ear, and you shiver slightly, pressing your thighs together to stop the arousal dripping down your legs.
Bucky chuckles softly, noticing your action, but he doesnât say anything. He moves a few inches away from you and looks your body up and down before he holds his hand out so you can place yours in his.
âReady?â he asks â Bucky, the 40âs gentleman in front of you â and you canât stop but smile softly.
You place your hand in his, and then he walks through the room with you. His fingers are holding your hand tightly, but it is still soft in his hand. He smiles when he moves a strand of his hair behind his hair, then he opens the door and lets you walk through it before he follows you.
Thatâs something you love about Bucky. You've never met someone with that kind of charm and kindness before. He treats women like a gentleman, buying them flowers and asking them out to go to the cinema, and he takes care that his girl has everything she needs. You know those things because you have seen him with some women before â the way he smiled when he was buying flowers and presenting them to you, or when he asked for advice for date ideas in this century. You smiled and told him a few ideas, but inside your chest was a heavy feeling when you saw him with the other women, touching her and smiling at her in a way you would love him to look at you.
Bucky's hand is still holding yours when you walk through the corridor. You feel that tingling feeling in your stomach, and when you look at him, you need to concentrate so you wonât stare at him for the rest of the evening.
His jaw is relaxed, but his jawline is still visible. Bucky's blue eyes focused on the people around him, but his lips formed into a cute smile. You could look at him the whole time, but he caught you. He turns his head around and narrows his eyebrows.
âDo I distract you from the mission?â he asks, chuckling.
âNo, itâs just- I wanted to make sure youâre focused,â you tell him.
âYou checked that for five minutes already.â
His words make you blush, and you feel so embarrassed, but his beauty is just too much for you to look away from. The brown-haired man laughs before he walks through the door into the restaurant of the hotel.
You really looked at him for that long? You walked down the stairs, through two floors, and you weren't able to get your eyes off him? You definitely need to stop acting like that when youâre near him; otherwise, your mission wonât work the way Tony wants it.
He leads you to a table; itâs quiet there, and you enjoy the moment where itâs just the two of you. But when you see the people youâre looking for, you sigh softly. With a nod, you show Bucky you see them, and he turns his head softly.
They donât look like criminals, but you read their files, and they are definitely criminals. They supported Hydra and still do, which is why youâre following them, and now itâs on you and Bucky to get to know where their hidden base is.
You listen a while to them before you look at Bucky with a serious gaze. When he feels you looking at him, he looks up from his plate, showing you he listens to you.
âBuck, you know we- we are best friends, right?â
He nods, furrowing his eyebrows in confusion. His hand clenches softly around the fork, slightly sweating what you would like to tell him.
âAnd this whole dating thing is. Yeah, itâs really cool, but-â you interrupt yourself. With a deep breath, you look down at your plate before looking back into Bucky's eyes, glistening with curiosity. âItâs just- as you said, 'when this wouldnât be fake datingâ I donât think we should. Bucky I love you, but I am dating someone else; he asked me out for dinner tomorrow,â you mumble, not really knowing why you tell him about it.
âOke,â he says with a cold voice.
âDonât be mad, please.â
âIâm not.â
You raise your eyebrow, knowing that he is mad at you. But there is no reason for him to be mad, right? The two of you are best friends, and he probably doesn't like you in the same way you do. But you canât risk your friendship, so you just try to date the other guy; he is nice and handsome, and you can learn to love him, canât you?
Bucky mumbles something to himself before he almost breaks the plate with the fork, smashing it down on it. His hand into a fist, and you can already see his knuckles turning white, his jaw clenching while his eyes are focused on you.
âBuck?â you ask softly, his eyes turning dark, but he is still quiet. âCould you try and not destroy the plate?â
He chuckles darkly, smashing the fork on the plate once more and breaking it. He smiles when he sees the damage in front of him and the sauce slowly flowing over the table.
You sigh softly, reaching for his hand to place yours around his. Bucky stands up, pulling his hand away, before he walks around the table and places his hand around your throat. With a firm grip, he pulls you up from the chair, making you look slightly up into his eyes. Bucky is towering over you, his tongue slipping over his lips.
âYou canât fuck someone else,â he tells you. His voice is deep, and it causes a shiver along your spine.
âWhat? Why canât I? Iâm an adult, and I can do whatever I want,â you say, not as confident as always, but you try your best to sound confident.
He laughs darkly and roughly. Buckyâs grip around your throat tightens, and he pulls you even closer. With his firm chest pressing against your front, you feel his muscular body through the fabric of your clothes.
âYouâre mine,â he whispers, and he lets go of you.
Bucky turns around and walks out of the restaurant. Your jaw drops open slightly, and you look while he makes his way until he reaches the door and pushes it open. You need a moment to realize his words when you sit down to calm yourself down. You feel the eyes of all the other people around you.
Your cheeks heat up, and you want to run out of the room too, but your legs feel so shaky that you canât do a step without holding yourself up at something. You put some money on the table and get up again, holding yourself to the chairs and slowly following your best friend.
When you finally walk out of the restaurant, you see Bucky leaning against the wall. His eyes are dark, and he looks at you with a cold expression.
He walks a step closer, towering over you. With a fast movement, his hand is around your throat once more, and he pushes you against the wall. Itâs a loose grip but strong enough to hold you where he wants you.
âYouâre mine, and I will fill you with my babies so everyone sees youâre mine,â he tells you with a slight smile on his lips.
You whimper; your hands are around his arm, but just to ground yourself.
âBucky-â
âI smell you; I can fucking smell you. I see the way you look at me, the way you press your thighs together,â he says, chuckling darkly.
âItâs not,â you interrupt yourself. âI have a date tomorrow.â
The laugh that leaves his lips lets you shiver; goosebumps are all over your body, and you canât stop the arousal growing between your folds. But if he is your best friend and you work together, you canât be together, can you?
âYeah?â he asks, and you nod.
Bucky lets go of you and walks a step away from you. He nods his head in the direction of your shared bedroom.
âTell me you donât want me, or I will carry you into our room and make sure who you belong to,â he tells you, his blue eyes looking almost into your soul, and you need a moment to handle his words and the way he looks at you.
âBucky, I have a date.â
âTell me you donât want me.â
âI-â you look down, playing with your hands in front of you.
Bucky laughs and steps closer again; his fingers find their way under your chin and make you look up at him. His eyes glistening with lust, his tongue slipping over his lips, before he leans closer until there are only a few more inches between the two of you.
âTell me you donât want me to fuck you and make you pregnant with my babies, doll,â he mumbles.
You feel his breathing on your lips. Before you can answer, you wrap your arms automatically around his neck and press him closer to you. Your lips meet his for a sweet but passionate kiss.
Bucky's hand finds its way down your body until he reaches between your legs and pushes your dress higher to slide his fingers over the fabric of your panties.
You moan when you feel the cold of the metal through your panties. His fingers draw small circles on your clit, making you throw your head back. Bucky uses the moment to attack your neck with kisses, and he bites softly into the sensitive skin.
âBucky, please,â you whimper, pushing your hips against his hand.
âLetâs go to our room; donât want others to hear whatâs only meant to be for me,â he tells you, and you blush slightly.
Bucky takes his hand away from your folds and wraps his arms around your waist, lifting you up. Your legs are around his waist when he walks with you along the floor to the bedroom the two of you share right now. The mission is completely forgotten. Itâs just the two of you â you and Bucky.
It doesnât take long for your super soldier to carry you into the room and lock the door before he places you on the bed. He stands in front of you, his eyes roaming over your body.
âStrip,â he demands.
âDo it by yourself, old man." you laugh, but the way he looks at you lets you be quiet immediately.
âI can do it, but I donât think I can hold back then.â
You swallow hard, your eyes focused on him, and the way he takes a step forward and closer to you lets you shiver once more. His aura, his eyes, he makes you go crazy, so you do what he tells you.
âCould you- Can you open the zipper, please?â you ask, and Bucky nods, stepping closer.
His firm chest is almost pressed against your face when he reaches his hands over your shoulders and opens your dress. Bucky lets his hands slide down over your shoulders, holding the fabric in his hand and exposing your shoulders.
Then he takes a step back. You nod as a thank you, standing up and letting the fabric slide down.
âYou're pretty, and all mine,â he tells you, reaching out his hands to touch your waist.
Bucky pulls you closer, his hand sliding up your back. He opens your bra and throws it away. Bucky's metal hand captures one of your breasts. You moan softly when his cold hand meets your warm flesh.
He leads you back to the bed until you sit there once again. Bucky gets on his knees in front of you, and you smile mischievously.
âDonât smile like that; you make me jealous and want me to share whatâs mine. I will give you all my cum, and you will beg for more,â he groans, pushing you down so you lay on your back.
Your best friend lowers his head and kisses your pussy through the fabric of your panties. Your hands find their way, and you grip his hair to ground yourself. He uses his hand to push your parties to the side, licking through your folds before he groans.
âYou taste better than I thought,â he mumbles, pushing his tongue against your entrance.
âBucky, more- please,â you moan, arching your back.
He chuckles but does what you want and pushes his tongue inside of you. His metal fingers joining his tongue, he moves one of the fingers inside of you, curling it. With your walls clenching around him, you moan loudly and throw your head back.
Bucky pushes another of his fingers inside of you, pushing them until he reaches his knuckles, and then he pulls them out of you again. After a few more thrusts, he finds your sweet spot, pressing his fingers against it. Your wet and warm walls clench around him, making it almost impossible for him to move his fingers.
âIâm so close. Bucky, please,â you beg, but he stops his movements and removes his fingers.
He sits up and looks at his fingers; they are glistening with your slick, and you blush when he pushes them into his mouth to suck them clean. Bucky groans and takes his clothes off as well.
First his shirt, then he stands up to open his belt and pushes his pants down. You look at him, following his movements with your eyes. You gasp when you see the bulge of his growing dick in his boxers.
âLike what you see, doll?â he asks, and you nod, looking into his face and discovering his body before you stare at his member again.
Bucky pushes the fabric down. His dick springs free, the tip already leaking with pre-cum, and he wraps one of his hands around his member, stroking himself a few times while his eyes are on you.
âDonât know how often I have imagined that already,â he groans.
You sit up and move yourself further onto the bed. Your legs are spread, and Bucky joins you in bed. He sits between your legs, his dick still sliding through his hand. Bucky slides his tip through your wet folds, groaning when he feels the warmth and wetness. Then he lines himself up with your entrance.
You wrap your hands around his neck and pull him closer, pressing your lips on his and biting his lip softly while he pushes inside of you. Bucky pushes himself further into you, slowly, so he wonât hurt you. He is focused on your expression, making sure to stop when he could hurt you.
âMove, please,â you say and throw your head back when he suddenly pushes the rest of his dick inside of you.
Bucky is balls deep inside of you. He groans softly when you clench around him. Your hands are still wrapped around his neck while he thrusts his hips, moving his dick between your tight walls.
He hits your sweet spot with every movement, making you clench around him more. You moan whenever he thrusts inside of you. The pleasure in your body feels overwhelming, but you love it.
âHe could fuck you like that,â Bucky says, kissing your forehead and thrusting inside of you harder. âAnd he can't love you the way I do. I will fuck you so full with my cum that, doll,â he adds and groans.
âBucky faster.â
Your best friend chuckles and does what you want. He moves faster and harder inside of you. You can feel the veins on his cock, his dick hitting every right spot inside of you.
His hand finds its way to your clit playing with it while he thrusts in a steady rhythm inside of you. The way you clench around him and your moans get louder, he knows you will cum with a few more thrusts.
âCome for me; scream my name while you cum all over my dick. And I will give you all of my cum; fill you so much; after that, youâre pregnant with my babies,â he mumbles into your ear.
The moment he tells you, you feel the pleasure in your stomach grow until you squirt all over Bucky. The orgasm and the pleasure in your body are better than you ever felt before, and you say his name over and over again while he fucks you through your orgasm.
Youâre already overstimulated, but Bucky still thrusts his hips further against yours. Youâre a morning mess, your hands tugging on his hair. And you feel the next orgasm building when he still rubs circles on your clit.
âOh fuck, will give you all of my cum; donât think this little pussy can take it all,â he groans.
With a few more movements, he cums inside of you and pulls you over the edge with him. Bucky lets his head fall down on your shoulder. His breath is heavy like yours, and he slowly calms down. You slide your fingers through his hair while his dick is still inside of you, and you feel his cum inside of you â cum painting your walls.
âNow youâre mine, and only mine,â Bucky tells you, biting into your neck. âAnd you will carry my babies, wonât you?â
âI will,â you say, and chuckle when he lifts himself up and kisses your lips.
âMy doll, my wonderful, precious doll.â
Bucky slowly pulls out of you, his eyes focused on the spot where your body was connected and where his cum is dripping out of you now. Then he looks up at you again and smiles.
âI love you; I donât want to be just your best friend. I want to be yours; I want you to be mine,â he confesses, leaning over you again.
âI love you too, and I want nothing more than to be yours. I wanted to date the guy because I wasnât able to tell you what I felt. I was scared you didnât feel the same, but you do. And Iâm yours, all yours, Buck,â you say, and he nods, kissing you passionately.
âLetâs clean ourselves, and then we should look to see if our people are still eating or if we cuddle after taking a warm bubble bath." Bucky laughs, and you chuckle, and he lifts you up to go to the bathroom and take a bath together.

Stuck
bucky barnes x reader
a/n miscommunication & close proximity trope is all iâm gonna say, itâs very fluffy once well- read it and find out reblogs appreciated!!!
âYouâve gotta be shitting meâ Bucky speaks under his breath, frustration evident in his body language and tone. A feedback sound started on the speakers on the ferris wheel.
âLadies and gentlemen there seems to be some technical issues with the ferris wheel, remain calm and stay seated and we should have it back up and running soonâ
You heard a heavy sigh escape from Bucky as his head hung back in defeat.
âThey said itâll be fixed soon, wonât have to be stuck with me for long Buckâ Trying to cut the tension that sat between him and yourself only earned a side glance from the man beside you.
You looked down to the car just beneath you âSTEVE, NAT!! ARE YOU GUYS OKAY??!â Their heads whipping towards you as you spoke at a far too loud volume.
âWEâRE OKAY! YOU?â Natasha replied back and you gave her a thumbs up, her and Steve getting back to bickering and giggling about whatever they were talking about. Meanwhile you were sat next to Mr Grumpy-
âCan you stop moving,â he spat out without looking at you. Bold of you to assume you were getting somewhere with him, even on the brink of considering him a âfriendâ but that idea was shot down quickly.
âIâm not moving, itâs probably the wind or maybe itâs you and you donât realiseâ Tapping your fingers on the barrier that held you in place, he turned to you and gave you a bitter look which only made the situation more awkward and tense.
âHowâd i get dragged onto the ferris wheel anywayâ He huffs.
âBecause, Steve and Nat are your best friends and also Nat is really scary and saying yes was easier than saying noâ You looked down at the two as you spoke, their flirting ever so obvious even from your height.
A few minutes passed where nobody said anything, you both avoided eye contact and it gave you time to reflect on what you couldâve done to make Bucky so impassive to you, youâd barely talked to him because if you tried he disregarded you or made an excuse to leave as soon as possible. You really wanted to be his friend too. Itâs awkward when the four of you go out and Steve and Nat obviously want to do things together as a couple making you stuck with Bucky and him with you. At least being civil is all you want, for Bucky to be able to hold a conversation with you longer than a few seconds.
âAre you cold?â His voice broke you from your thoughts, you were shivering and you hadnât realised as you were so deep in your head. You looked at the goosebumps on your arms and turned to him,
âI guess I am, yeah.â you laughed at your ignorance for not noticing your body temperature drop. Out of the corner of your eye you saw Bucky starting to take his jumper off.
âWhat are you doing?â You furrowed your brows at his action, thereâs no way he was about to give that to you, he doesnât even like you, you donât think so anyway based on every interaction youâve had with him ever.
âIâm giving you my sweater?â Now he was confused, it was quite obvious to him what he was doing, why else would he take off the jumper and sacrifice himself so you could be warm? Heâs a gentleman first if anything. He got it over is head and handed it you, you took a second to take it as you were flabbergasted at his sudden kindness towards you.
âOh.â You broke your gaze from him down to the jumper âThank you,â you smiled gratefully and put the jumper on. The sleeves swallowed your hands, which helped because they were freezing before. Then you looked back at Bucky who now sat next to you in nothing but a black t-shirt âAre you not cold?â Once again furrowing your brows in his direction.
âNot as cold as youâ He was looking straight ahead at the city view from your spot at the top of the ferris wheel. Reading his expression was impossible and you were really trying toâ
âOkay well uhâ thanks again.â You repeated your thanks as you snuggled into the jumper that now enveloped you, âSo.. kinda awkward, huh?â You tried cracking a joke laughing a little as you did so which made Bucky turn to face you, analysing his features which you didnât notice softened as he saw you smiling.
Bucky coughed awkwardly âUh-â He let out a small laugh too âLooks like Steve and Nat arenât bothered by this disruption at allâ His tone was lighter.
âThose two wouldnât notice the world ending while theyâre gazing at each other like thatâ You laughed again, Bucky liked that sound.
âSo in love, itâs sickeningâ He retorted with a shake of his head and a smile which earned a glance from you, just a brief one before you looked back down at your sweater paws as they rested on the barrier, Bucky has noticed and he found it endearing, he felt warm whenever he saw you smile or heard you laugh and every time your thigh accidentally touched his due to your close proximity he swears a bolt of electricity travelled through him making his heart beat faster.
âI think itâs cuteâ You had a small pout on your face as you spoke, still looking down towards your two friends âimagine being stuck on a ferris wheel with someone you love, not the worst thing in the world in my opinion, itâs kind of like an impromptu date where you have no choice but to talk because the other option is incredibly awkward silenceâ You fiddled with the sleeves of the jumper.
âI guess, but what if you were trapped on a ferris wheel with someone you liked who you knew didnât feel the same, thatâs awkward all on its ownâ He was playing with a thread on his jeans as he spoke, you noticed.
âHow would they know if the other person didnât feel the same? Had they asked?â You inquired as the tension between you grew once again because the situation was too close to home.
âIsnât asking embarrassing though?â Bucky asked breathily, like he was nervous.
âI donât think so.â
âYou donât?â He looked at you.
âI mean the worst that can happen is they say no and youâre sad for a bit but youâd move on eventuallyâ You smiled but you werenât looking at him.
âRight, yeahâ He coughed awkwardly again and the silence resumed until he broke it about a minute later âUhmâ clearing his throat again Bucky decided it was now or never âAre you doing anything Friday night?â He closed his eyes for a brief second because there was no going back now.
âNo, why?â You looked at him and smiled, maybe heâd finally be your friend, that was progress and you could work with that.
âWould you uh- like to get dinner with me? Like a date..?â He avoided your gaze as he asked.
âWhatâ It caught you off guard and you responded without thinking.
âFuckâ He swore to himself âsorry forget I said anything, I donât know what was going through my-â He began to ramble.
âBucky no I mean, I thought you didnât like meâ His head turned to face you as he thought about your words.
âWhat? No I do like youâ He furrowed his brows thinking back on the interactions youâd had where he hadnât realised heâd been so nervous it came off as rude. âShit iâm sorry, iâve been an ass to you now that I think about it, I wasnât trying to though, I thought I was uh- I thought i was disguising my attraction to you well because i didnât want to make you feel uncomfortable, but I guess it came off dickishâ He internally slapped himself at his mistake
âOh, OHâ The realisation and his admission hit you âAwe, Bucky,â you laughed at how silly it all was, if youâd have just talked to each other sooner this couldâve been avoided âBucky I would love to go to dinner with youâ You smiled at the man.
The ferris wheel suddenly began again and you were on your way down, both smiling like idiots and laughing whenever youâd glance at each other, two idiots that had liked each other this whole time who didnât know it. You both stepped off the car and down the stairs smiling and giggling still and approached Natasha and Steve,
âWhat the hell happened up there?â Natasha laughed because she had never seen the two of you so cosy before, Steve raised a brow but you two only burst out laughing again and started walking ahead of them and snickering as they both stared in confusion and disbelief.
